The idea of progress

To illustrate the idea of progress Im going to talk about the technological progress with the robots which have been designed to look like human beings and Watson a gigantic computer. Then, Im going to show how South Africa evolved from a dictatorial government to a real democratic society. Firstly, we saw the photo of two robots which illustrate the technological progress in the world of robotics. Indeed, these robots are androids that have been designed to look like human beings. We were able to notice that there was a robot more evolved than the other one. One of the robots was the robot of the movie I,Robot , he looks more like a robot because its mechanical joints have not been hidden. On the other hand, the other robot was the very advanced robot created by a team of Japanese scientists in 2009, this robot shows a progress compared to the other because its looks like more a human being and a face able to mimic human expressions. Thanks to these very advanced robots we can improve our quality of life, indeed some robots are already very helpful to humans by performing household chores. For example : vacuuming robots are able to hoover the floor alone. Moreover some robots are quite clever and can play games like chess for example or the game Jeopardy, its the case of Watson a very sophisticated computer. Jeopardy is a tricky TV game show where Watson fought against two tough human competitors. Watson possesses an enormous knowledge but also some type of reasoning to understand enigmatic or ambiguous clues. Thats why this new advance raises many questions, people are afraid that if computers keep getting cleverer, there might become capable of something comparable to human intelligence one day or another.. We find the idea of progress through the political evolution of South Africa, its a social progress. Indeed, South Africa is a former dictatorship become a democracy after the Apartheid. Apartheid was a discriminatory policy that became a law after the National Party came into power in South Africa in 1948, Nelson Mandela fought against the Apartheid and was elected a president of the ANC in 1991 whose aim was to get equal rights for all in SA. By means of FWK a president of SA, Mandela helped to establish equality and democracy in SA, together they managed to abolish the last laws of the Apartheid, a democracy without segregation was thus organized following the fall of the Apartheid.
