Summary of Implementation:
There are several ways in which I would implement the reading resources into a classroom. On the K12 Reader website there is a page that is specific to reading comprehension. There are several passages available that require students to really dig deep into the meaning of the paper to find parts of literature that are necessary to really understand the material. The worksheets will help students learn to pay attention to what they are reading and take mental notes on what is or is not important in the passage. This site also has several worksheets dealing with the parts of speech which students would be assigned to ensure reading fluency and comprehension. MyVocabulary.com is an excellent site I would use in my classroom when reading a text as a class. There are lists online of important vocabulary words the students would need to know to comprehend the reading. There are words lists on this site for books such as 1984, A Mid Summer Nights Dream, Of Mice and Men, and many other books. These are all pieces of literature I was required to read in high school and I believe the vocabulary lists presented via the website would really aid students in their understanding of the text when reading them. On the Read Write Think website there are many interactive activities that can help students further their education in the reading department, especially in creative writing such as poems. One aspect I would have the students do would be to partake in the interactive acrostic poem link, which allows you to create your own poem on the site. Once they completed their poems I would then have the students print them out and read them to each other as a fun activity. I would also use this site to gain ideas about how to best

teach sonnets to the students. I would use the Reading Quest site to teach students how to compare and contrast aspects of what they are reading. The site has venn diagrams which I would print out and give to the students to fill in while they read a particular assignment. If reading a book such as Of Mice and Men, I would have the students do a character venn diagram with a short summary at the bottom. There is also a useful link on teaching students how to summarize. Some students have a hard time understanding the concept of summarizing, and the site can help me teach them what it really means. There are also worksheets on the site to help the students get the hang of how a summary should really look. Two of the math sites I have chosen are great for reviewing basic math skills and do so via online games. Math Play and Learn 4 Good are the two sites I would suggest for students to review their math skills before learning new material. I would have them do this for homework as a fun way to make sure they understand material so that they could ask any questions if they just arent grasping something essential to the new material. For instance, there are a lot of algebraic games that would be helpful in reviewing algebra before being taught a subject such as calculus. Cool math is another website that has games, but it also has review lessons on it. Although the website doesnt really have games for advanced topics such as calculus, it does provide access to review so that students can look at something other than their notebook when studying for an exam. The Math Portal website is a site that I would use personally as the teacher. The site gives a variety of lesson plans on different topics which would help tremendously in deciding an effective way to teach new material to students. This site also gives access to exams, which I could either use as a study guide for the students or could make practice problems out of for the students to do as homework, classwork, or just do entirely as a class and have students come to the board and solve them. Both sites I have for the Webquests would be really helpful, especially in the scientific world of knowledge. The first webquest on stem cells would be great at an introduction to the topic for students to do on their own, or to do at the end of the topic. Either way the webquest would be assigned as an individual assignment for each student. The second site, Science Webquests, is good for any high school level biology because it provides access to several different topics in science that are adequate for high school students. For this site I would have students get together in groups of 4 and pick one of the webquests to complete as a team. I would have them turn in all of the material, and then give a brief presentation to the rest of the class about what they have learned and what aspects they found most interesting about their particular webquest. The PBS Learning Media and Education World sites would be used as a resource for myself to aid in the teaching process. The PBS site is an amazing tool because it offers several different types of material to integrate into a lesson plan. I love how there are videos, pictures and interactive pages that can enhance the lesson. For instance, if I were teaching a lesson on ecosystems, I would bring up the interactive page on Antarctic Ecosystems to really demonstrate how ecosystems work. I would use the Arkive and Science Pioneers pages in my classroom by introducing the students to the sites and having them do research or a project on a particular organism or topic of interest. Arkive is a great resource for pictures and videos of all sorts of organisms on Earth, and as a student I really enjoy using it for presentations. The Science Pioneers page will aid students in finding good reliable sources to use during their research.

I would use the presentation tools in combination with the before-mentioned projects I would have students do. I would require them to use a web-based presentation technology for their presentations rather than the normal Powerpoint get-up. This way they can become accustomed to using new technologies, and can share their knowledge with other people besides the other students in our particular classroom. I would probably have at least three different projects for the students to complete, either alone or in groups, and require them to use each source throughout the year to expand their horizon!
