Dear Employment Director:

I grew up in a family that moved so many times that I never truly made real roots in any town or state. The one thing that I had to rely on was my ability to quickly adapt and feel comfortable in new situations. Because of this frequent change of location, I also developed a strong skill set of friendly and approachable communication techniques to easily make new friends and quickly establish trustworthiness and dependability. Without fully knowing it, this ability followed me into college where I fell into the major of Communication Studies and discovered my passion for broadcast journalism in the line of television production. Up until that point in my life, I had never fully known what career field I wished to pursue, but when the idea of production was presented to me I knew it was right and have made every decision since in a way that will lead me to that dream. I have held two internships at local television stations in Harrisonburg, VA where I attend James Madison University. Through these internships, I have assisted in everything from clerical work to floor directing live show productions. My experiences with interning at the stations helped me to develop a strong ability to juggle multiple tasks as well as acknowledging and adhering to strict time-lines. In this way, I have proven to be reliable and dedicated intern who looks to learn from and make the most of every experience. As a Communication Studies major, I have developed a strong ability for written and verbal communication and show proficiency in public speaking and facilitation skills; in which I recently was honored as the recipient of the Top Presentation Award presented at the 36 th annual Communication Conference at James Madison University. To further add to these outlets, as a creative writing minor I have developed an even more specific skill for the art of written communication. Through a literary journalism class that focused on the criticism of food, I have developed strong literary journalism skills that I honed into writing scripts for certain news segments when interning at WVPT. Along with that, this semester I became a writer for my universitys womens discourse blog. With my strong written and verbal communication skills, production and broadcast journalism experience, as well as my hardworking, dependable and dedicated work ethic, I know I would prove myself a valuable and dependable intern or entry level employee to most any production department. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely,

Katherine R. Ward
