BACKGROUND and RATIONALE: The key concepts for this lesson are research The critical academic language that must be addressed in this lesson are organization, interpretation, and research. Previously students were introduced to biomes and the animal kingdom this will be a good opportunity to combine those two lessons. This is a building block for students to create a paper for their English class Some students may not finish during the time provided so they will use time during recess to finish their assignment. PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE: Introduction: This blog will allow the students to think creatively when it comes to their animal. Procedures:
For a month students will create a blog. This blog will be updated on every Friday. The students will do these activities for each Friday: The First Week: Students will sign up for wordpress.com to start up a blog. After signing up students will create an entry with a headline called Week One. In this entry students will tell me what they already know about the animals they are assigned to. When they are finished, the students will send me a link to the blog. The blogs theme should incorporate the animal family they were assigned. The Second Week: During this week, students will upload pictures that they have taken themselves on their blog. These pictures will pertain to their assigned animal. These pictures will focus on what the animal eats, where it lives, does it hibernate, is. Do other animals eat it? The picture focusing on the animals diet should have two (2) to three (3) pictures. The Third Week: Using the information that they have found on the assigned websites, the students will create a comics that they had created themselves or on a website on the daily lives of their assigned animal. The comic should be one (1) to three (3) pages long. The Fourth Week: The students will create a Prezi or a video on their animal. These parts must answer the following questions. Did they come to appreciate it? Do they hate the animal even more? How is it important to the environment? , Is it nocturnal or not? Does it hibernate? Is the animal endangered? The student will also tell me some fun trivia on the animal. The Fifth Week: the students will present their video or prezi to the class. The presentation must be a minute and a half long to three minutes. All these assignment will be uploaded on their blogs. Students will be given thirty to forty-five minutes at the school to finish these assignments. If they do not finish it during that time frame then students may finish it at home or during free time at the school.

Closure: I will close the lesson by having the students their findings to the class.

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:
The students grade will be dependent on multiple things. The first grade will be graded on how well the student updated their blog. If they had missed the deadline multiple times then their grade will decline. Their grade will also be influenced if they actually followed directions for each assignment. Finally, if a student does an animal that is not assigned to them their grade will also decline. A students grade can improve if the student is creative with their blog. They update their blog on time and they follow all directions.

MODIFICATIONS:
For students who did not master the objective they will have an opportunity to write a paper on a different animal. For students who need enrichment they will be assigned multiple animals. The student must state how are these animals connected and a few of their assignments will be increased.
