Why did you choose this specific strategy? How does this strategy assist a student in understanding the content?

I chose this strategy because I have several students that struggle with vocabulary recall and who dont have a big vocabulary. In order to meet the needs of these students I chose to use the Frayer Model because it promotes critical thinking and helps students to identify and understand unfamiliar vocabulary words. The Frayer Model also draws on a students prior knowledge to build connections among new concepts and creates a visual reference by which students learn to compare attributes and examples.

Students with mild disabilities often have trouble with vocabulary for many different reasons. The Frayer model is great for vocabulary building, because it allows students to make connects and access prior knowledge. I know many of our students do have prior knowledge or have exposure to a plethora vocabulary words, but the Frayer Model also gives a visual representation of the word or allows the student to make a visual representation of the word foster metacognition to remind him/her of the specific vocabulary word.
