UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA: The Moral of the Story project is derived from the Common Core standard CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.3.2. This lesson in English focuses on the key ideas and details of literature. Students will recount stories, including fables, folktales, and myths from diverse cultures; determine the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in the text. LESSON OBJECTIVE:
1. Given a textbook or approved website, the student will summarize, then select and describe an animal, character, and moral from 4 different myths from Greek Mythology using graphic images to represent that myth with a three of three on the scoring rubric. 2. Given a computer and Power Point software or Prezi website, the student will create a presentation transferring the previous collected information from the planning handout for the one of the myths with a three of three on the scoring rubric 3. Given the completed assignment, the student will choose one of the myths, create a Prezi or Power Point, and present it to the teacher and the class with a two of three on the scoring rubric. Student Participation: The goal of this exercise is for the students to comprehend and express their understanding of literature and Greek Mythology selected in writing and images

Technology Integration:

In this exercise the students will use one or any number of the online mythological websites as resources of the information that they collect to complete the handout that is given to them. The Power Point software or Prezi website will be used to type, format, and add images (online clipart in Power point) to create the final presentation of the myth that the students choose to present. Once the student has completed their assignment, they will save and submit the finished project to their class dropbox. BACKGROUND and RATIONALE: Student will demonstrate comprehension of each myth by selecting and describing an animal, person, event, and visual representation of each myth. Academic language is not addressed in IDT 3600 This lesson is a continuation of Common Core English Standard CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.3.2. We will build on the information gathered in this exercise as we continue to analyze and explore all aspects of literature. I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the objectives and for those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part of this particular lesson. PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE: Introduction: Begin by teaching students the foundations of research. Present a quick overview on how to comprehend the research that is found. Demonstrate and refresh the students memory on how to create a table in Mi crosoft Word. Teach a lesson on different historical eras. Procedures: Prior to the Computer (30 minutes) Teacher Procedures: 1. After the Introduction, give the students the Moral of the Story planning handout and textbooks. 2. Instruct the students to use the textbook to read two of the mythological stories of their choice, then summarize the myth, identify the moral of the story, identify a key character and what makes them stand out, identify the role of the animal in the myth, and transfer the information to the planning handout. Student Procedures:

1. Students will read two myths using the textbook and complete two sections of their planning handout by summarizing the myth, identifying the moral of the story, identifying a key character and what makes them stand out, identifying the role of the animal in the myth, and transferring the information to the planning handout. .

At the Computer Day One (50 minutes): Teacher Procedures: 1. Have students open the Internet browser 2. Direct students to the online Mythological websites. 3. Direct the students to find the final two myths of their choice, summarize, identify the moral of the story, identify a key character and what makes them stand out, identify the role of the animal in the myth and transfer the information to the planning handout. 4. Monitor and assist as needed Student Procedures: 1. Open the Internet browser 2. Go to the online Mythological websites. 3. Type in the search box on the website the historical era of their choice. 4. Transfer the information about an animal, event, and person to the planning sheet. 5. Write on the planning handout a summary, the moral of the myth, a key character and their importance, and the role of the animal in the myth

At the Computer Day 2 (50 minutes): Using Power Point:

Teacher Procedures: 1. Have students open Microsoft Power Point. 2. Have students open the Internet browser. 3. Direct students to create a title slide 4. Direct the students to label each following slide with the terms: Animal, Key Character, Moral, and Summary. 5. Direct Students to transfer the information they gathered on The Moral of the Story planning handout to the slide for each appropriate heading. 6. Direct students to the Microsoft Clipart Gallery website. 7. Advise students to find and add an image to each slide relating to the information on that slide. 8. Monitor and assist as needed

Student Procedures: 1. 2. 3. 4. Open Microsoft Power Point. Open the Internet browser Go back to Power Point Add the following title to the title slide: The Moral of the Story Project. 5. Below the title, add the name of the myth of choice, and your name 6. Add the following headings to each following slide: Animal, Key Character, Moral, and Summary. 7. Transfer the information gathered on The Moral of the Story planning handout in Microsoft Power Point. 8. Go the Clipart website 9. Search and locate an image relating to the information of the first slide after the title page 10. Use pull-down menu to copy the image 11. Go to slide in Microsoft Power Point 12. Paste the Picture 13. Save work 14. Repeat items 7-13 for the

remaining headings. 15. When all slide are finished, correct any spelling errors using spell check 16. Upload the finished assignment to the class dropbox *If the student is using Prezi the Teacher Procedures are as following: 1. Have students open the Internet browser 2. Direct the students to www.prezi.com 3. Direct the students to select a template of their choice. 4. Direct students to create a title slide 5. Direct Students to transfer the information they gathered on The Moral of the Story planning handout to the slide for each appropriate heading. 6. Direct students to the Microsoft Clipart Gallery website. 7. Advise students to find and add an image to each slide relating to the information on that slide. 8. Monitor and assist as needed *If the student is using Prezi the Student Procedures are as following: 1. Open the Internet browser 2. Type in the Prezi web address 3. Choose the template of your choice 4. Add the following title to the title slide: The Moral of the Story Project. 5. Below the title, add the name of the myth of choice, and your name 6. Add the following headings to each following slide: Animal, Key Character, Moral, and Summary. 7. Transfer the information gathered on The Moral of the Story planning handout in Microsoft Power Point. 8. Click on the image link on the website. 9. Search and locate an image relating to the information of the first slide after the title page 10. Click on the image of your choice and drag to the slide 11. Resize the image to satisfaction 12. Repeat items 7-11 for the remaining headings. 13. When all slide are finished, correct any spelling errors using spell check 14. Save Prezi 15. Highlight the link to your prezi 16. Use pull-down menu to copy the link 17. Open Microsoft Word 18. Paste the link in document 19. Save Word document 20. Upload the link to the finished assignment to the class dropbox

After the Computer (50 minutes) Teacher Procedures: 1. Place the students names on a sheet of paper. 2. Cut the sheet of paper in slips by the names and place them in a hat. 3. Pull a name from the hat. 4. Have the student individually present their Power Point or Prezi on their favorite myth from the assignment. 5. Grade the student based on the scoring rubric. 6. Have to student to turn in the assignment after presentation.

Student Procedures:

1. After name is called present their Power Point or Prezi 2. Explain the information on each slide in the presentation for each category they filled out on the handout from the assignment of their favorite Greek Myth. 3. Turn in handout to teacher after presenting.

Closure: After the completion of the assignment, each student will present to the class of the myth that they chose. After the student makes the presentation the student will be graded on the presentation to the class.
