Subject: Time: Language Arts 9:10AM 11:25AM Objective: The students will be introduced to new spelling words, new vocabulary, a new story, understanding characters, forming past tense, and their new leveled readers. Procedure: Spelling Pre-Test in students planners (words on Teacher Manual pg. 353) Collect planners and review words Introduce new vocabulary; put student e-text onto white board pgs. 486-487 Listen to The Extra-good Sunday (student e-text pages 490 508); pausing to discuss when needed Introduce target skill: understanding characters using practice page 21; complete with students Introduce grammar skill: verbs in past tense using projectable 15.2; complete examples with students Small group leveled readers; picture walk (following teachers packet in leveled readers box) Send home weekly homework packet Journeys Teacher Manual Think Central online text book/resources Understanding characters practice page 21 Verbs in past tense projectable 15.2 Leveled Readers: Fifis Bath (Struggling) and Trouble with Triplets (On-Level) Homework packets in bags Nothing needs to be collected or graded after todays lesson. Objective: The students will complete a vocabulary word association activity, discuss key concepts from their story, identify details and traits of characters with assistance, and read leveled readers. Procedure: Vocabulary word association activity; pass out cut apart and construction paper; check students paper before they glue I read/they read The Extra-good Sunday; discuss various questions/details (Teachers Manual pgs. 382 390) Understanding characters practice page 199; pass out copies to students, complete together Ordering directions worksheet (snowman cutapart); pass out copies/construction paper and explain Using a thesaurus worksheet (practice book pg. 201); students work in pairs to complete Small group leveled readers; read to students and discuss Vocabulary word association/construction paper Understanding characters practice book page 199 Building a snowman cut apart/construction paper Using a Thesaurus practice page book 201 Leveled Readers: Fifis Bath (Struggling) and Trouble with Triplets (On-Level) Students keep vocabulary word association activity to refer to during the week; all other worksheets can be collected and checked Math 12:20PM 1:15PM; 1:45PM 2:00PM Title: 11-9 Problem Solving: Make and Test Generalizations Objective: The students will be able to identify commonalities among objects or situations to make and test generalizations achieving 80% accuracy on their leveled homework. Procedure: Explain concept of making generalizations Show enVision Math Video, pausing to explain Draw rectangle, square, and trapezoid on the board; have students give possible generalizations; test enVision Math guided practice problems; pass out individual whiteboards and markers for students to answer Quick Check; once completed, turn worksheet into the tray then Reading Counts Grade Quick Check and assign leveled homework; pass back Quick Check and review Science 2:00PM 2:30PM Objective: Students will be able to answer questions while reading the Energy on Earth book achieving 80% accuracy on their reading guide. Procedure: Distribute Energy on Earth reading guides Begin reading the book Energy on Earth to the students Let students take turns reading Work with students to fill out the reading guide as we are reading the book.

Graded Quick Checks can be sent home in students mailboxes Title: Chapter 11 Review Objective: Students will be able to use their knowledge of the concepts in chapter 11 to complete the review activity. Procedure: Explain how to use marshmallows and toothpicks to create math terms Split students into 5 groups Distribute activity mats, marshmallows, and toothpicks to each group; give students time to create their assigned terms and glue them to the activity mat Have each group show what they created; give each team 1 point for each correct figure Project e-text chapter 11 test questions 1 and 4 (page 298); teams will answer for a tie breaker; then discuss correct answer and why

Finished reading guides can be collected and checked. Objective: Students will be able to build a windmill and discuss wind energy on a basic level. Procedure: Begin with a basic discussion of wind energy; remind students of the information we read in the Energy on Earth book Distribute materials to build the windmills Work step by step with the students to build their own personal windmills

Title: Chapter 11 Test Procedure: Pass out Chapter 11 test for students to complete Completed tests are to be turned in to the tray on the teachers desk Students who have finished the test may read a Reading Counts book until all test are turned in

Objective: Students will be able to work in pairs and research either a renewable or nonrenewable resource. Procedure: Pair students Let students choose which partner will research the renewable resource and which will research the nonrenewable resource Pairs must get approval from teacher Pairs can start research; students write down findings on research guide

Copies of research guides iPads (for research) Computers (for research) Textbooks Energy on Earth big book Students will keep their research guides in their science folders Objective: Students will be able to research either a renewable or nonrenewable resource and work in pairs to write a research report draft. Procedure: Students continue their research to complete their research guides Once both of their individual research guides are completed they will get approval from the teacher to start writing Students will work together to start writing their research report draft (one paragraph on the renewable resource and one paragraph on the nonrenewable resource)

Evaluation

Tests should be graded and sent home with correction sheets to be returned the next day Title: 13-1 Understanding Perimeter Objective: The students will be able to use standard units to find the perimeter of a shape achieving 80% accuracy on their leveled homework. Procedure: Show enVision Math Video, pausing to explain when necessary Distribute grid paper (teaching tool 11); one per student Display grid paper on white board and draw figure (teachers manual pg. 324B) and have students copy it onto their grid paper Ask students to find the perimeter of the shape; share and discuss methods, solution, and using a unit of measurement (1 square = 1 foot: answer 18 feet) enVision Math guided practice problems; students answer on individual whiteboards Quick Check; once completed, turn worksheet into the tray then Reading Counts Grade Quick Check and assign leveled homework; pass back Quick Check and review enVision Math 13-1 Video Centimeter grid paper (Teaching Tool 11) enVision Math guided practice problems online individual whiteboards and markers 13-1 Quick Check

Procedure: Students read The Extra-good Sunday aloud to themselves; then take Reading test Give Spelling Post-test on only the words the students missed on the pretest while students are rereading their story for their test; grade immediately and give feedback to students Fluency progress monitoring assessment; students will be given one minute to read a passage Readers Theater Tia Luisas Fruit Salad social studies connection story (student textbook pgs. 510 513; teachers manual pgs. 404 405)

Title: 13-2 Tools and Units for Perimeter Objective: The students will be able to select appropriate tools and units to find perimeter achieving 80% accuracy on their Quick Check worksheets. Procedure: Show enVision Math Video, pausing to explain when necessary enVision Math guided practice; mention using a measuring tape to measure curved distances Write ruler, yardstick, measuring tape on the board; have students name things around the room that they would measure using these tools; repeat process with units: yards, feet, and inches (discuss miles) Quick Check; once completed, turn worksheet into the tray then Reading Counts pass back Quick Check and review

Objective: Students will be able to research either a renewable or nonrenewable resource and work in pairs to write a research report draft. Procedure: Students will work together to finish writing their research report draft (one paragraph on the renewable resource and one paragraph on the nonrenewable resource) Once students have completed writing the first two paragraphs together, they will conference with the teacher and make any necessary corrections before starting the third paragraph independently (Their opinion of which resource is better and why).
