Problem Scenario
Your principal informs you that a change has been made to the 2
nd
grade standards, a grade that
you teach. As the school year is quickly coming to a close, you must quickly pull together a
lesson teaching your second grade class all about traditional literature. This includes the basic
content, subgenres, and different books associated with traditional literature. You may present it
in any way that you wish, but a presentation, excel spreadsheet and of course an assessment must
all be used.
Objective
The students will learn the basics of traditional literature, including the basic characteristics, sub
genres and different books that all make up traditional literature.

Engaging Activities/ Instructional Strategies
The students will create a %$ chart at the beginning of the lesson using the smart
board.
The teacher will present the basic concepts, subgenres and some examples of books
through a &ower&oint.
'n order for the students to get a picture of what traditional literature is the teacher will
read a fairytale to the class to help with a future acti(ity.
$rite your own fairytale) After briefly going through what makes a story a fairytale, one
of the subgenres of traditional literature, and reading one aloud, students will create their
own story with some of the requirements discussed throughout the lesson. "ince the
students will be younger, second graders, they will be put in groups of 3 or !.
