Summer Reading Program!

Please review the attached information
about a Summer Reading Program from
the public library.

Please be sure to keep enjoying push-up ice cream! In a few
weeks, students will begin a Jet Toy Car unit in science where
students will use the discs and sticks for wheels and axles.
Mrs. Brost kbrost@nlsd122.org

Science- Please purchase, eat, and save the push up discs and sticks that pull apart for our Jet Toy Unit.
Students will work in partners so they can share! Due May 12
th
. Social Studies- Students created battle folders
to sort out the progress of the war. We will do our culminating activity next Tuesday where students put on a
newscast about the war. Math- Great Job to all students for practicing their skills. We rocked the test. Next
week we have Aims testing followed by Discovery testing. Unit 11 is about geometric solids and comparing
spheres and prisms.

Language Arts: Please remember that your childs book report is due Monday, May 5th. Beginning on
Monday, students will present their reports to the class. In spelling, students will spell words with the suffixes
ous, -eous, and ious. Additionally, students will be assessed on the Lesson 18 vocabulary words on
Thursday, May 8th. Social Studies: Next week students will select an influential person involved in the
American Revolution to research. Using this information, students will create a wanted
advertisement. Science: Next week we will begin studying force and motion in preparation for our Jet Toy
car unit. Students will need a shoebox to store their cars in, as well as four push-up ice cream sticks and
discs. Please send these to school with your child by Wednesday if you have not done so yet. Homeroom:
The due date for this year's final book order is Wednesday, May 7th. Orders can be placed online using our
class's access code L7YV6 or sent to school with your child.

We've had a great week despite the weather. It is so exciting to be in the home stretch. Students will take the
end of year Discovery Assessment on Monday. I will also start aims web testing. This is when students read a
passage for 1 minute. We will work on using vivid words and phrases in Writer's Companion. Students will
have a grammar quiz over adjectives on Wed. We will start centers next week focusing on main idea and
details. Ask your child what is happening in the novel Tuck Everlasting. It is a fabulous book! We need
kleenex. Let's hope for a rain free weekend.
Mrs. Wolf mwolf@nlsd122.org

This week, we worked on circumference, and on distinguishing between perimeter and circumference. We
also made and read graphs. We will take our Unit 10 test next week! Writing and solving simple algebraic
equations is easy for most of our fifth graders, but these and many other skills can be practiced on
www.ixl.com/signin/nlsd. Please encourage your student to log on! Have a great weekend.
Mrs. Worden hworden@nlsd122.org

Next week, students will be AIMS testing and taking Discovery Assessment on the computer. I do recommend
students do their 20 minutes of reading out loud this weekend and next week to help get them ready for their
fluency AIMS test. We will also be continuing our study of Tuck Everlasting. We will not have a weekly
homework packet or do Read Naturally. In spelling, our word pattern will be words with Greek word part. In
grammar, I'm excited to report we'll be focusing on contractions and I can't hardly wait! Have a wonderful
weekend! BOOK REPORT REMINDER: Book reports are due Wednesday, May 21.
