PROJECT WEB

Rhetoric of Media/ Entertainment

Project Web, the rhetoric of Media/Entertainment, asks you to create a non-
traditional web-based argument and present your website to the class. Dont
freak out, this just means you need to create an argument and present it
through the medium of a website or a blog. This is a very important
assignment because you are contributing to the amount of available
reference material out on the Internet. Just because the essay is online, it
doesnt mean that your analysis/ evidence/ argument/ or even composition
can be non-academic or written in slang. Your essay/ blog/ website should
have a specific goal/ and or purpose, which is proved in your critical
examination of the subject matter and alternate sources.

Requirements
Email Professor Altman Your Website Link (4/2)
Proposal/ Outline (4/4)
Annotated Bibliography (4/13)
Presentation about website (4/23 & 4/25)
Website with an academic argument about media/rhetoric/ dystopia/
and etc. (Printed 4-6 pages) (4/23 & 4/25)
o Various tabs on website/blog related to theme, with creative use
of new media (e.g., YouTube clips and other Web media)
within essay/ website.
o Should have the coherence of an academic argument, but it
should use the medium of Web to further your argument.

Weekly Moodle Posts-
You are required to post on Moodle almost every week. Your post should
use academic language and quotes from the text as sources. I suggest using
these Moodle Posts as a place to explore some of the themes you see as you
burrow into the text.

Proposal/Outline
You should write a paragraph that proposes the ideas you will be grappling
with in Essay 3. Or, you can write an in depth outline, which tells me what
you will be referencing and doing within your essay/ website. Obviously you
can change your mind on your subject later, but use the assignment is to
condense your thoughts together about the theme in the text and begin to
argue about how the text provides evidence of said theme.

Annotated bibliography of five texts (2 academic/ 2 multi-media)- You
need to do some outside research for this essay. Since we have already been
to the Library and a Librarian has already helped us hone our research skills,
I will require more sources for this assignment. With these skills, you must
find three academic sources to support your Proposal/Essays overall
argument and at least two pieces of multi-media that will help your website
construction in some way.

Essay 3- Web Based Argumentative Essay/Presentation- (@4-6 Pages
Printed)
This essay/ website can be thought of as a capstone to our course or an
argumentative essay using media as sources. In this project, you will be
asked to compose an argument and provide visual media/ and arguable
material as evidence for your thesis.

What does this mean? You have to use Weebly, WordPress, Dreamweaver,
iWeb, or whatever website engine you can find to create a web-based
argumentative essay on any topic in class.

This essay can explore any argumentative topic, with approval of instructor.
There are many topics for consideration, including:
Capstone Ideas

Rhetorical Analysis of a Media Text (movies, songs, tv show)- What
is the narrative arguing? How is the text arguing this/ proving a point?
Is it dystopic? Why?(can be about a piece of media we have not
examined in class, as long as it is cleared by the Professor).
Rhetoric of Advertisements
Novel vs. Film adaptations- How does the meaning of the text change
in other media?(V for Vendetta)
Novel vs. Graphic Novel-Use of rhetoric within a text to tell a story.
