Mayan Myth Comparison

Every culture has many myths and stories that are passed down from generation to

generation. The Creation and The Quest for the Sun are examples of such stories. Like other

myths, these two tales are traditional stories about the early history of people that explain some

phenomenon using supernatural forces. These two stories have many similarities and differences.

One thing that the stories have in common is that they, explain natural events. The

Creation explain how humans were created and The Quest for the Sun explains how/why the

sun comes up. The Mayan myth shares in its theme about determination; likewise, the Chinese

myth has the same theme about accomplishing your goals through determination. In a way, both
of

these stories have to do with the creation of the world. Both of these stories have to do with the

early history of humanity. Correspondingly these stories also have elements of magic. In The

Creation the creators are magical and can make people out of wood and mud and in The Quest

for the Sun the sun disappears and the simple man has to go and find it.

Even though both of these stories are myths they have a lot of differences. The Creation is

a Mayan myth and deals with how humans came to be. The Quest for the Sun is a Chinese

myth. In this story the sun disappears and Liu Chun must go find it so that everything wont die.

The Creation takes place before The Quest for the Sun.

The Quest for the Sun and The Creation are correspondingly interesting stories.
Theyre both very unique myths that explain natural events. I enjoyed reading both of them and
Im looking

forward to read more myths.
