Prohibition:
Alcohol was considered a dangerous drug in
US early 20
th
century. On Jan 16 1920
prohibition was intro. as a result of 18
th

amendment to constitution. Alcohol illegal
except for medical, religious or industrial
reasons. The Volstead Act was passed. Set up
agency of 1,500 agents.
Prohibition ended in 1933. Didnt work led
to criminals making alcohol or smuggling it
from Canada. Bars were called speakeasies. One
of the most famous criminals was Al Capone.
