For my questionnaire I surveyed 20 people, giving them 7 questions to answer, asking them to give their
honest opinion on my groups media products. I gave it to family and friends so I could access different
ages, social economical status, regional status and occupations. All questionnaires had a link to my film
trailers where the person could go onto YouTube and watch, a print of my poster and movie magazine
and then asked them to fill out the survey. By the time I gathered all the questionnaires I was then able
to gather information, voice opinions, and analyse the feedback.

The questionnaire is as follows:
Age:
0-18
19-24
25-30

39-45

This shows majority of
those who answered the
survey were male, with
60% of them being this
gender. However there is
a mix that took this
questionnaire.

Was our intended film genre shown clearly throughout the film?
From the research I found out that 55% of the audience didnt know
what the actual genre from the film trailer was. They believed the film
fit into numerous genre categories and had lots of different
conventions. There were a lot of syntactic and semantic elements, like
drugs, money, cars, guns and tracksuits. These were all pointed out by
our audience as they believed they indicated the genre well. However
some believed there was too much crossover and the genre could be misconstrued. If I was to re-do the
project I would include more elements and semantic elements to make it clearer to the audience, this is
the same with the narrative.

Was the narrative clear in our film trailer?
As you can see by the results, our audience believed the narrative was clear in the trailer however some
say they got lost and didnt understand the narrative due to the
editing. They pointed out that once the re-wind is used in the trailer,
they didnt understand what it was trying to show. However those
who agreed that they understood the narrative said that the re-wind
worked well and clearly shows that it was used to show how they got
into the predicament before the re-wind happens. This is the message
we were trying to show, as it has been used in professional trailers of
our chosen genre and it worked well. If we were to re-do the project
would either take the re-wind out or keep it in and make a voice over on it, and explain what it was
trying to show.
Were our ancillary texts relatable and similar to our film production?
The feedback for our ancillary products was all positive as
people said that it looked professional and clearly shows
the urban gritty genre. By achieving a clear representation
of the genre for the audience I feel our ancillary products
met their purpose and worked well alongside the trailer
that we made. Maintaining the house style and colours
from the trailer in intertitles and graphics then onto the
ancillary texts worked well. The posters worked well as I
received responses from people saying they would want to
find out more about the character. They knew that Tim
Ind was the main character due to him being the main
focus of both the poster and magazine, this was easily
achieved by having two less involved but still vital

characters placed behind Tim. This made and imposed the power of Tim that we tried to show in the
trailer. They knew that the poster and magazine was relevant to the trailer which was the main focus
when producing these products. One reviewer said it looks professional and with the use of colours I
could defiantly see this being on a young persons wall this is the ideal review I was looking for when
designing the products. The movie magazine looked professional and the use of colours were liked by
the audience, the use of font and drop shadows on the headings were the main compliment made. The
audience liked the design of the magazine name and liked the logo by the side, they said it worked well
and looked professional.

Are the uses of shot types varied and well used within the trailer?
70% of the people who answered the survey said yes, they
all mentioned that the use of angles and shots worked
effectively and were well varied. The use of close ups that
were used gave us a clear indication of how some
characters were feeling like at the end, the close up
showed the character to be stressed and worried about
something. This shows that the use of enigma codes in our
film, what could the character be stressed about? Most
people commented on the use of effects on the shots, the use of filters like when Jack gets kidnapped,
they said it worked well and the look of a security camera made it look very professional, in lots of
trailers this shot it tried and some look unprofessional, whereas on our trailer it worked well in the short
montage. They commented on the use of the canted angle when in the house when it gets raided the
canted angle makes it seem really, as if youre in the room at the time this was a nice compliment as it
means the shot look professional and real, fitting into our hybrid genre and connecting so the realism of
social realism.

Would you go watch this film?

yes no
90% of the audience said that they would go to see
the film. I assume this is because most of those who
were surveyed fitted into our main target market who
we aimed the film at, aged 18-30. Those who said no
fitted into the 39-45 and the 46+ age category. This
explains why they wouldnt go and see it, they said
they didnt like this genre of film and theyd rather see
something else. However those who said yes said that
they were intrigued by what was going to happen to
Tim (the kidnapped character) we as a group tried to
add as much action and enigma codes as we could and
it worked well as it clearly hooked the audience and is the main reason theyd like to see it. The
audience said they liked the genre and the narrative of a young boy living a drug lifestyle, this would
relate to Bulmer and Katzs theory of escapism, the audience were hooked and escaped everyday life
through the life of our character in our film.
