Knowledge. With regards to my qualifications for this position, I have a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Hawaiian Language from the University of Hawaii Manoa and am currently a
Masters degree candidate in Hawaiian language as well. While an undergraduate I did
volunteer work at a few loi around Hawaii, Kahakuloa on Maui; Kahana, Anuenue in
Palolo and at Kanewai on Oahu. My final semester as an undergrad, I successfully
completed the Mahiai Kalo class by Charles Kupa and Pomaikai Kaniaupio-Crozier.
Since that time I have worked as a lecturer in Hawaiian language at the University of
Hawaii Manoa and have continued to work with Ka Papa Loi o Kanewai on many
projects, such as First Saturdays, Punaluu, and building the hale pili that stands there
now, in addition to a smaller taken by the floods a few years ago. In each of these
projects I have worked with various community organizations and schools to ensure the
success of these projects.
Along with my lecturer position with Kawaihuelani, I also am part Educational Specialist

also am very familiar with the day to day operations of Ka Papa Loi o Kanewai and feel
that I have a good working relationship with the staff, in addition to members of
Kawaihuelani and Kamakakuokalani. I feel that my experience, language and cultural
skills and my commitment to Ka Papa Loi o Kanewai will be a great asset to this center.
I humbly ask for your consideration in my application and thank for your time and
patience.
