About 3 Weeks of Activities

Standards Being Covered:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.W.6 Use technology to produce and publish writing and to
interact and collaborate with others.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.2.5 Create audio recordings of stories or poems; add drawings or
other visual displays to stories or recounts of experiences when appropriate to clarify
ideas, thoughts, and feelings.

CCSS.Math.Content.2.MD.D.10 Draw a picture graph and a bar graph (with single-unit
scale) to represent a data set with up to four categories. Solve simple put-together, take-
apart, and compare problems

The students will pair up and make a puppet show to show their understanding of the
different weather tools
o I will have cut outs
o They have to create a story with a partner
Weather around the world (how is it different)
o Half a map with a key of different weather in that certain area
Natural Disasters that happen and the things they can do to help
Simulation of natural disaster things that they would have and things they would lose
o Have students make these things so it is meaningful to them, then the natural
disaster may take it away.
How will they help other students? Community?
Write up about what they learned and how they would help others.

This unit uses various techniques, but also fun projects that help the students understand weather
and the tools that are used to measure weather. It is a great unit that the students really got
excited about and still talk about now. It is a fun unit and has many strategies for different
learners. I enjoyed making this unit for my second grade class.
