Course Reflection
The Final of Finals
English 2010 was an awesome class, and I had a great teacher to accompany the class to
make it even better. I have learned a lot about ways to write essays in Ethos, Pathos, Logos and
Kairos. This class has assigned three significant papers throughout the semester that has tested
my skills in writing and have further improved it for future use. My biggest struggle within
writing is the use of past tense, present tense, and future tense. I always forget which one I need
to use, so I end up picking one randomly which then creates further mistakes. This has been one
of my biggest problems while writing. But this course has helped me with all of my struggles in
writing, not just my main cause for writing. This course has improved my overall writing ability
and has made me a more confident player in writing.
My first assignment of choice was about bullying. It described my life as a child and
unforgettable memories that have been created. Writing this paper brought back some of the
painful memories from my childhood, but I think these memories shaped who I am today. My
main concern about this topic is that I would attempt to avoid as much personalization as
possible and put in mass amounts of facts. I ended up doing just that, except I did not do it
properly. I used the feedback from my peer review to modify the information that I had provided
in this paper, and further personalized the paper to put a more sincere story behind it. All in all it
was a good paper with a sad story.

My second assignment talks about perception and how different views can alter how you
may think about any one being, thing, etc. Perception is key to how you will define something,
but when it comes to a person, perception is not always the key to understanding a person
completely. As I wrote this, I became confused as to where I was going sometimes because it
came really close to other psychological meanings. My peer helped point out that perception is
not only a broad topic, but to help narrow it down, to put examples in the paper to help better
explain my point of view. Perception is truly an amazing way to tell how people really think
without having to ask them.
My third paper was about the longstanding battle between which swords was better. The
Japanese Katana, or the European Longsword. This was above all my favorite topic since I was
able to research more about these weapons and their legends. I believe this was my most well
written paper out of the three since I took special interest in this topic. My peer had almost no
modifications to add, except for a change in the order of the paragraphs. I looked into these and
did end up changing the paragraphs to make better sense of the story over all regarding both
weapons.
All three papers were modified, some more than others. Overall the knowledge gathered
from the modifications in these papers helped me tremendously because I ended up making the
same mistakes in all of those papers. Common mistakes that I had found were that, I was putting
myself into the papers where I was not supposed to. Also, not putting in the information
correctly, and not organizing my paragraphs correctly. Those were my most improved areas
during this course. I have gathered what I needed to further improve my writing skills and
implemented them into the papers. I plan to put all of the modified papers into my portfolio from
what I think is my best paper first and then so on and so forth.
