Buses should be running or just about to start sevice.

Few days back the road to

Chandratal was still closed to all traffic because of some avalanches not yet re
moved. As of now there is probably nobody at the lake so no tents to stay so not
a good idea to walk perhaps,it is difficult to do the trek in both directions in
one day, although possible. Batal is not a nice place to stay but you can,if the
family running the dhaba is already there. The closest village is Losar which is
over 30 kms from the lake.If you walk, especially going is better to start from
the Kunzum La,it's all the way down,11 kms. To find a lift to the pass you can
try to catch a returning spitian jeep, you will find them and their drivers at th
e Kiran guest house in Manali, near the SBI. Tomorrow or day after I will be able
to update all the informations given above.
I recommend breezing through Shimla (Check out some of the old streets and the m
onkey temple). Head straight up to Kullu or any town in the Pavarti valley and o
rganize a trek for yourself to the pin valley. From there, get a inner line pass
in Kaza and come back south through the Kinnauri area stopping in Tabo, Nako(st
ay), Chitkul, Sangla, Kalpa (stay in Roghi, 5 k further), Sarahan. There are gre
at day hikes around all of these places.
When you are in Spiti it is possible to hitch or share jeeps with other people.
