ENHANCEMENT OF

REACTIVE POWER IN FIXED

SPEED WIND TURBINE

OBJECTIVE

To enhance the reactive power of a 3 bus
system under faulted condition using
FACTS devices
INTRODUCTION

Wind energy is a consequence of the
ecological concerns

Hence grid monitoring of wind energy
conversion systems is the major problem.

FIXED SPEED WIND TURBINE
DIAGRAM
EXPLANATION
The power captured by the wind turbine is
converted into electrical power by the IG

From IG it is transmitted to the grid by the
stator.

To generate power the IG speed must be
slightly above the synchronous speed

Voltage at bus 2 and bus 1 settles at 0.9
pu
Bus power
Real power curve:
Initially bus 2 supplies for the main load
hence there a sharp rise in the curve

Reactive power also changes so as to
supply the real power.

WIND TURBINE GRAPH
Wind turbine voltage

Voltage at bus B1 to which wind turbine is
connected settles at 0.9 pu

WIND TURBINE POWER

At 0.1s the real power of the bus B2 starts
decreasing and real power of wind
turbine(WT) starts increasing
Accordingly reactive power changes to
supply for the real power.
