EFFECTIVE LESSON DESIGN

1. OBJECTIVES:

Assign reading parts and begin reading Shakespeare’s tragedy Macbeth.

2. ANTICIPATORY SET:

Put up name of all the parts in the play on front board so that the students wonder
what will be going on with these names.

3. INSTRUCTIONAL INPUT:

Have students open to page 402-403 and we will read the introduction to the tragedy
of Macbeth.

4. MODELING:

Teacher will begin reading aloud and then pass it off to a student to read the
following paragraph. Then they can pass it to the next person.

5. CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:

Ask students about the material that we just read. Ask them to explain what the
Gunpowder Plot of 1605 as a connection between James I and Macbeth.

6. GUIDED PRACTICE:

Students will be asked to write their names on the board next to parts in the play.
Then we will begin reading the play aloud in class and they will be responsible for the
part they chose.

7. INDEPENDENT PRACTICE:

The students were given a worksheet to complete with the background information
about the time period, Shakespeare, and the tragedy of Macbeth to complete and turn
back in during class today.

8. EVALUATION:

The students worksheets will be graded to see what they have accomplished and what
they have taken it from the information they read on the background material. The
teacher will also ask questions throughout the reading to check for understanding.

9. CLOSURE:

Teacher will help the students summarize the action in the play up until they finished
reading for the day and tell them to come prepared to continue reading tomorrow.

10. ALTERNATIVE PLANS:

The first day of reading we will get through all that we can. The next class period we
will see what kind of information they have retained and then decide if our method of
reading the play is the best option for all the students and the entire class.

11. REMEDIATION:

I will offer help to anyone who needs further assistance to come see me during their
seminar period so that we can go over the work together.

12. ENRICHMENT:

I will make sure to ask them to explain the tougher questions that I ask the class. The
work we are reading is a very challenging one and they should be plenty challenged
as we read.
