Farewell to Arms

Setting

The story takes place in 1916 1918
WWI was in it last years
The war is taken place in Italy
Mr. Henry
He was a volunteer for the Italian army to drive
the wounded
Many soldiers Mr. Henry saw their lives
wasted away in the battlefield
In the midst of the scenes, he later
encountered his love, Ms. Catherine
For a some time there were happy with each
other until the war separate each other with
their duties
In the war rain symbolizes isolation from the
couple making them feel lonely
Death and pain
Mr. Henry develops pain in the war as
some friends he met die before him
After driving along the countryside he often
see death among the fallen soldiers
He saw the soldiers morale diminished as
their comrade fall one by one
Every village he went was grim, everything
destroyed
Catherine
Catherine was the only person that made his
life cheerful during the war
After they were separated, they were soon
reunited at a hotel
They soon learn each other pain for several
month which made their relationship stronger
Mr. Henry soon made a commitment to Ms.
Catherine that he deserted the army to be with
her a moving act
When war police was looking for them, Mr.
Henry friend the hotel manager helped them
escape
Where they went
The couple soon moved to Switzerland, but
the war police arrested them
After the couple was released Catherine
gave birth in a hospital
The baby had died before because it
strangle by an umbilical cord
Catherine soon died of a fatal wound she
developed when she gave to the child
Experience
As Catherine died, Mr. Henry was
saddened to see someone he love Is gone
He was struggling to say goodbye to
Catherine
All of these events happening in the story
are experiences Mr. Henry faced
The pain, love, and desertion develop from
Mr. Henry from others made him a stronger
person, but his heart was scarred from it
These experiences can be share to the
next generation
