Algebra II Mr. Kiefer


Mission: Strive for Excellence in All Tings
Algebra II !vervie": Algebra II builds on skills obtained in Algebra I. The first part of the
course includes a review of Algebra I that goes into the concepts with more depth than Algebra I.
Some of the topics in the class include linear equations and inequalities, functions and function
families (quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, rational, and trigonometric, pol!nomials, exponents,

Supplies: Students are expected to be prepared with pencils and paper. The +lawson (igh School
'athematics ,epartment requires students to have a -&ring binder devoted onl! to mathematics.
The binder must contain dividers with the following categories#

If obtaining a -&ring binder with dividers is a problem, parents can contact 'r. 4iefer and a solution
will be reached.
Assignments #$%& of 'rade(: It5s extremel! important that students diligentl! complete
assignments. There will be sufficient time in class to work on assignments6 it is expected that
students will take advantage of that time. The assignments will consist of 2roblem Sets (checked
dail! for completion and sometimes collected and graded for accurac! and Test +orrections.
Assignments that are turned in and graded for accurac! can be re&done for a higher grade, up to 7)
out of 7) points8 2oints are given for homework turned in on time (-pts and kept track of separate
from the accurac! grade. The points accumulated for on&time assignments will appear as a separate
assignment grade at the end of the marking period.

It is possible to re&take a Test (not the =inal /xam if the student is not satisfied with their grade.
"efore a re&take is allowed, the student must meet with 'r. 4iefer outside of class and prove that
the! have learned the content in question (homework, extra&problems that 'r. 4iefer provides.
The second test will be taken outside of class with 'r. 4iefer and the second test score will be the

Tutoring: 'r. 4iefer will be available before school ever! da! beginning at @#;A a.m. Tutoring
during <unch B"C is available for those who have <unch B".C The times in which 'r. 4iefer is
available after school will be posted in the classroom dail!, however 'r. 4iefer will probabl! be
available during Scholar5s +lub (Tuesda!s, Dednesda!s, andEor Thursda!s.
/iscipline and Expectations: If a student enters the classroom, it is assumed that the student has
made the choice to strive for excellence. This not onl! includes achieving academicall!, but also
treating themselves and others with respect. De can onl! succeed if ever!one is respectful enough
to prevent disruptions to the learning process. All students and the teacher are expected to be in
class, in their assigned seats, and read! to begin the learning process immediatel! after the bell
rings. :f course, all items in the +lawson Student (andbook will be adhered to (including having
all electronic devices either out of sight or confiscated, the tard!Eattendance polic!, and dress code
policies.
