ALASKA PROVIDENCE 2
Alaska Providence is a health and services organization. This organization deals
with many units of care including one in particular, which is NIICU (neonatal intensive
care unit). This article is persuading the readers to follow their path, which is to get
patients to come out to their hospitals and other facilities they have to help with care.
Leading readers into believing them they have some specific points they point out
helping the readers believe in what they want to get out for this they give the readers
specific Pathos, Ethos, and logos dealing with why they are the best. Based on these
examples I will show you that the website on this article is persuading.
However one can say they persuade the audience with ethos, pathos and logos.
Throughout the article the author is trying to persuade the audience with many examples.
Reading this article I saw they used examples of ethos, which they used very often, ethos
are convincing of the character or credibility of the persuader. There are many examples
throughout the text of ethos the author chose specific examples to help persuade the
audience, for example when I read the NICU unit part of this article there was a saying
that included our goal in the NICU is to provide state of the art compassionate care for
sick newborn babies. When reading this you soon realize that the author is showing you
how well their facilities are and how well they care for someone and they will have full
support and compassion for you as well as your newborn child. As a typical reader I
found it easy to believe that they are a great organization team.
The goal of this article was to help persuade readers into going out and using their
facilities, as a reader and a nurse major I found this article very well believable and
persuading, in my defense there are many reason on why I would chose providences
organization as somewhere I would go. The author of this article is using high education
ALASKA PROVIDENCE 3
to help with his argument, when reading this article I saw that doctors were involved and
their opinions and thoughts, also there is many presidents of the organization and other
members with high education involved. Reading more into this article there was many
more persuading responses using pathos, pathos is an appeal to emotion and is a way of
convincing an audience of an argument by creating an emotional response. For example
this article has many examples of pathos but one that stood out very clear was the
statement The tiny babies in our newborn intensive care unit are possibly our most
vulnerable patientsmost susceptible to infection and most in need of the safest, highest-
quality care we can provide, said Richard Mandsager, MD. This statement stood out
because it specifically said that in the NICU the babies are the ones that are most
vulnerable and since they are sick they will need high quality care which they will give
them. They said this statement with no hesitation whatsoever, so the reader can
understand they will be providing these services and the way they will be providing them.
They persuaded the reader into thinking that they are the organization to choose because
they will tell how you will be treated and what to expect from them. They are an
organization with high quality and good intentions.
Reading this article I felt that they used a good sense of pathos to help express
their emotions on wanting to get the audience to listen to their argument. I very well felt
influenced and persuade into this articles argument after reading some of the ethos and
pathos it gave. I knew that after reading and continuing on there should be more to this
article than two statement said, so I read on and investigated more so that this article can
win me over, when I read more into it I went beyond the NICU unit and read other units
as well. The organization was not only persuasive in talking and expressing the NICU but
ALASKA PROVIDENCE 4
it was also persuasive in other unit subjects as well I realized this organization really
wanted to push their audience into getting convinced or convincing others to use their
organization.
When reading this article I saw not so many logos as I thought it would have, I
soon realized that this article is persuading the audience by using only ethos and pathos.
When there is not all three pathos, ethos and logos it is very difficult to continue on
persuading in my opinion because for me when I am won over and persuaded It is
because I have read the argument and why it is a good argument with examples that
follow it. Usually all organizations say the same thing because they want you to chose
them so really there is fight but with this article I felt very good about it and very pushed
towards the organization. I felt very well towards this article because with my nursing
major I really want to study and be a NICU nurse therefore I like to see the arguments
different organizations put out saying why their organization is better and why you
should choose theirs instead of others. This article about this organization really showed
me that I should choose them; they used very educated ethos and pathos for persuading
their audience.
This article is showing all the good things about this organization, the author
shows regulations for the patients and it shows how the patients will have privacy and
they will not be willing to show anything of themselves unless they are permitted. This
shows how the author feels about their patents and this also shows the audience that they
will be well taken care of even if others want to get into specific detail about their
patients. They also say that no photos will be permitted unless there is a communication
and staff member and unless they have securing permission, with an audience like me for
ALASKA PROVIDENCE 5
example this shows me that this organization is always protecting their patients and that
they care. This author show that the education they use goes through everyone in the
organization therefore everyone is well educated and gets the same attention and
knowledge so that they can treat all their patients fairly. This is very important because
this shows how well organized this organization is and how the environment of this
organization is.
Throughout this whole article the author did persuade me in many ways, I do
agree with the authors argument and I feel majority of people who read this article will
agree with agreeing to this argument. The author shows many signs that are well for
instance the author focuses on wanting to push people to use their organization and
getting patients to use their help and with the point throughout the argument the author
does that. The author know that providing information positively towards the care of the
patients more people will want to get their help also with education, people will be more
willing to go somewhere that a well educated environment is, this shows that the
organization will have the same discourse therefore everyone that works for this
organization will all be on the same level and understand each other in their own specific
ways. I find it very important that organizations you work for or visit have the same sense
of discourse because it is very difficult to not be on the same page and very frustrating to
the patients. My point across this is that this author did a good job of winning the articles
argument. Using many examples from the text the author persuaded his readers well
showing them very well opportunities and intensions this Alaska Providence organization
has.
