The Demon of Consumerism

Frank Zappa’s quote about American Consumerism in regards to music is a negative,

though truthful, comment on American’s disregard for the creation and the creative process. In

his quote, he essentially says that Americans don’t care about the music, so long as they have it,

an idea that is growing progressively truer, especially in today’s society. Americans today care

little about how they receive their music, the process of creation, or the act of creation itself.

Americans, especially teenage Americans, are more concern with the appearance of the musician

or popularity of the music than the quality or creativity of the music itself.
