Date 4/15/14 Subject/ Topic/ Theme Health: How can we get physical activity?

I. Objectives
What is the main focus of this lesson?
The main focus of this lesson is to show students how easy it can be to get physical activity, as well as to go over the recommended
amount of physical activity.
How does this lesson tie in to a unit plan? (If applicable.)
This lesson ties into the Unit Plan through teaching about the importance of Physical Activity.
What are your objectives for this lesson? (As many as needed.) Indicate connections to applicable national or state standards.
If an objective applies to only certain students write the name(s) of the student(s) to whom it applies.
1) The children will list at least 10 different kinds of physical activity.
2) The children will be motivated to engage in physical activity outside of school and throughout life.
3) The children will participate regularly in physical activity
Etc.

II. Before you start
Prerequisite knowledge and skills.

What is Physical activity?
Assessment
(formative and summative)

Formative: walking around and monitoring student groups. Summative: the final presentation
of the group
Identify those students
(individuals or groups) in your
class who will need special
attention and describe the level of
support you plan on giving them.
Refer back to the survey you did
of your class.
All students will be included in this lesson. I may need to be aware of how students are
grouped though.
Materials-what materials (books,
handouts, etc) do you need for this
lesson and do you have them?

Chart paper, groups created
Do you need to set up your
classroom in any special way for
this lesson? If so, describe it.

Area where students can present, but also areas where students can work in groups, far enough
away from another group

III. The Plan
Time
Parts
The description of (script for) the lesson, wherein you describe teacher activities and student
activities
Motivation
(Opening/
Introduction/
Engagement)
I will do a little skit of many types of physical activities: running in place, jumping jacks, spin in a circle,
dance, sit down, stand up, jump up and down, jump rope, push-up, curl up
3 min

Development
Ask students what was I doing? Have them give me a list of about 10 different physical activities. Then
The students will be broken up into groups of 3 or 4, and need to come up with their own list of physical
activities. Then they will need to go up front an act out their activities in front of the whole class, as the
class guesses what the students are doing.

Closure

Ask students where they already include physical activity in their life. Look for answers such as: recess,
gym class, walking my dog, playing with my friends, or siblings, etc.
Your reflection on the lesson including ideas for improvement for next time:
