This study aimed to determine if using a reporting real events strategy influences the ability to write news articles for 8th grade students at Junior High School 1 Palembang. The study used a quasi-experimental method with an experimental and control class. Data was collected from an ability test on writing news articles. The t-test results showed that the reporting real events strategy had a significant influence on writing news ability, so the null hypothesis that there was no influence was rejected. It was concluded that the reporting real events strategy positively influences writing news ability for 8th grade students.
