NTR 530: Dietetic Internship Practicum Professor Keri McComb Summer 2014: Community
The Hudson Valley Dietetic Association(HVDA) is an association that seeks to empower members to reach career goals by providing resources, networking opportunities, and to influence change in consumer services and professional settings. At the beginning of the fall semester, I became an active member of the HVDA. One way in which I have participated throughout the year in the association is by helping to sell raffle baskets at NYSDA on Friday April 25, 2014. Various organizations donated the baskets, all which had a themes. The profit made from selling the baskets was used to benefit the association and its members by providing funds for scholarships. This experience was valuable because it allowed me to network with other HVDA members and other Dietitians who came to purchase raffle tickets at the table. It was very interesting to meet other professionals and hear their backgrounds, as well as listen to other nutrition interns talk about their experiences in the internship. In the future I would like to become a more active member of the HVDA by attending more meetings and events and perhaps evening running for a board position. The HVDA is a great opportunity to network with other Dietitians, utilize available resources and ultimately empower the field of dietetics.
