PED 105

General Lesson Plan format

Lesson plan must include the following:
1. Objectives/Learning outcomes
The students will be able to
Understand how to increase or decrease their average heart rate based upon the
amount of physical activity each week and their dietary choices
Demonstrate healthy and no healthy snacks and the effect on their heart rate
Inform others about how dietary choices and heart rate are related through the
results of their project
Identify what you want the students to learn?
The students will learn how the heart works as well as how heart rate and
fitness are related
2. Materials or Equipment required: identify all the materials needed to conduct
the lesson
Heart Pump: wide mouth jar, balloons, skewer, two flexible straws,
scissors, tub/pail, sponge, water
Kidnetic Site
Charts for each student
3. Procedures: provide step by step methodology that will be used to teach the
lesson. Ideally anyone would be able to use this lesson plan to teach a class.
See attached sheet
4. Class organization: circle, seated in desks, groups of 2-3, etc.
Individual records of daily trials/activities
Class will do the movement activity together in a large circle around the
classroom each week
5. Evaluation: some type of assessment should be developed to assess student
learning
Class Discussion:
o How do you feel (before and after) about your health? Do you think you
progressed? Why is being healthy important? Would you continue this
activity on your own?
Students will also inform other students in their school about the project and why
it was so important through a presentation on the morning announcements
explaining what they did and how it made them feel before and after.
6. References or Resources needed: identify any references or resources used for
the development of the lesson
www.smm.org/heart/lessons/lesson5a.htm
www.kidnetic.com/Kore/Fitness.aspx
www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003399.htm
7. Modifications: What possible adaptations would you make for a differently abled
student?
Students with motion disabilities: have students perform exercises from Physical
Therapy instead of those featured on Kidnetic if they can not perform one.
Culture barrier- students who come from homes that are unable to provide better
nutrition for students then the students would need to complete the program as
well as they could or explain what could be done to make the program work better
for them.
Additional information may be added to the lesson plan as deemed necessary.
