Assessment Students will fill out the Worksheet (3 questions) at the best of their ability.
Also, informally, the students will go around and identify a pattern in real life.
Outline 1. Teacher will start off by asking the students if they remember what we
learned last week.
- What did we do last week? What were the books about?
- When the kids answer patterns: What patterns do you see right now?
2. Teacher introduces to the kids how we are going to train ourselves to be
really intelligent and be able to look far more than what the book tells
us.
- Because this may be a very hard thing to understand for the kids, make
sure to be willing to repeat multiple times.
3. Review some vocabulary words before reading the book. Read the
book. Remind them that I will give them time at the end to ask
questions. Hold onto them!
- Vocabulary
orderly
snazzy
spun
threads
gleaming
fabric
- We are going to ask ourselves 3 questions while were reading the book
again (worksheet): what is the book about? What questions do you
have? How do you feel after youve finished reading the book?
4. Teacher explains that patterns are not just things we see but it can be
things we feel or talk about.
- Do we have patterns? If so, what?
- Give examples: Your classroom schedule has a pattern that it follows,
the windows on a school bus, etc.
- A pattern is something happens over and over again.
5. Show the video about Old MacDonalds Farm.
- Ask the students if they like the name MacDonald. If we could, what
would we name the farmer?
- The students will have to identify the different patterns in the nursery
rhyme. Give an example: Old MacDonald had a farm or ee-i-ee-i-o,
etc. Make sure the kids understand before going on.
- What kind of sounds do animals make in Spanish (if they know)?
6. Students will go around and give one example (or more) of a pattern in
their lives.
- What time do they go to bed each day?
- What kind of shapes do they see on the way home/to school?
7. SSR
- Students will be able to read a book of their choice.
