HISTORY OF

COMPUTERS
By Alex Coreas
VACUUM TUBES
Vacuum tubes were first discovered by Thomas Edison but he did
not understand what he discovered. It wasnt until 1906 that John
Abrose Fleming made the first usable tube.
They are used in Radio/Televison broadcast but mainly in
switching.
PROS AND CONS
Pros: they could overheat so much that they could keep your
house warm.
It was obvious if one wasnt working

Cons: they could overheat so much that they could keep your
house warm.
You pretty much needed to be a big shot to afford one
TRANSISTORS
A transistor is a semiconductor device used to amplify and switch
electronic signals and electrical power.
Made out of silicon
PROS AND CONS
Pros: small and lightweight, little power consumption and
extremely long life.
Cons: They are sensitive to radiation and cosmic rays(for those
trips to outer space), the silicon can age and fail.
MICROCHIP
The Microchip can be as small as a pencil eraser.
With this technology it was possible for everyone to have their
own personal computer(PC).
Microchips are not only used in computers.

PROS AND CONS
Pros: Now you didnt have to be super rich to afford a computer
Small and compact.

Cons: The firsts microchips didnt have much processing power(4-
bits).
