Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal
This documents explains how to download and install opatch.

The old OPatch id's :

For 9i R2(9.2.x) and 10GR1(10.1.x) -2617419

For 10GR2(10.2.x) and 11g (11.1.0) -4898608

Have been replaced with the new id's:

6880880 Universal Installer: Patch OPatch 9i, 10.1

6880880 Universal Installer: Patch OPatch 10.2
6880880 Universal Installer: Patch OPatch 11.1

Solution
1) Please download the latest OPatch version from Metalink.

From Metalink:

a) Click On PATCHES & UPDATES button.

b) Select {Simple Search} link
c) On {Patch(s) Numbers} type:
6880880 Universal Installer: Patch OPatch 9i, 10.1
6880880 Universal Installer: Patch OPatch 10.2
6880880 Universal Installer: Patch OPatch
11.1                                                                              
d) On {Platform or Language} select your platform
e) Press the Go button.
f) Select the option that corresponds to the Oracle release installed:
6880880 Universal Installer: Patch OPatch 9i, 10.1
6880880 Universal Installer: Patch OPatch 10.2
6880880 Universal Installer: Patch OPatch 11.1
g) Download

From a command prompt:

ftp updates.oracle.com (metalink username and password)

2) Then upload or move the unzipped zip file to ORACLE_HOME and uncompress it:

3) Now you can set the Opatch directory in your PATH variable so you can execute the
opatch command from anywhere.

Example:

For Korn / Bourne shell
% export PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/Opatch

For C Shell
% setenv PATH $PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/Opatch
