Classroom Management Plan

1. Philosophical Statement:
a. I believe that classroom management is a huge part of how your classroom is
going to run and be efficient for your students to be able to learn. I feel that
without having a set-in-stone management plan, your classroom would just be
complete chaos. I feel that your management plan doesnt need to be
complicated and in depth but it needs to have structure and a flow to it so that
the students and the teacher know what is expected and how the classroom
should be run.
b. I feel that my teaching always changes between the class I am in and the
students I work with, but for the most part I love to try to incorporate the
many different learning styles. I feel that I try to always include: visuals,
hands-on activities, and audio. I like to try to make the lesson plans as
interesting as I can for the students instead of just having the students listen to
me ramble on and on about the topic and knowing that I will be losing half, if
not all, my students.
2. Instructional Content:
a. I will try to have short breaks such as !" second breaks# where the students
just relax for a moment. $or longer activities or lessons, I will take a short %
to & minute break where I would have the students stand up and stretch. 'his
break will help them maintain focus and not become unruly from being
overworked, tired, stressed out or bored.
i. I will try to make instruction as interesting as I can by being
excited about what I am teaching and just trying to include as
much entertaining aspects as I can without getting off topic. I
will like to include: videos related to what I am teaching,
hands-on activities, pictures related to the topic, and animations
to add keep the lessons fresh and exciting.
ii. I would relate instruction to student preferences and learner
profiles by trying to alternate between the learner profiles and
student preferences. I would do one lesson(instruction for a
few types of students preferences and then add in a few
learner profiles to match what the students learner profiles are.
iii. I will determine and accommodate for task difficulty and
length based on the students in my classroom. If there are
many students with I)*s, I will make sure that all their
accommodations are met and appropriate. I will determine
how difficult a task should be depending on the student and
what their level of ability is. I would make the length of the
instruction !" to +" minutes long depending on time I have in a
school day and the topic being taught. I will adjust the lesson
length based on the attention spans of the students and how
long they are able to listen and pay attention.
b. I will ensure student involvement(participation during instruction by either
having a student read a slide on a *ower*oint, coming up to the board to
circle or find something I ask for, or have the students do ,think, pair, share-.
I would like my students to get moving, thinking, and talking during my
instruction to one take some stress off the teacher and put some of the
responsibility back on to the students and get them involved.
c. I will incorporate choices before my instruction by having the students
choose between two different lessons that I will teach and they will choose
which one I will teach first. I will then have the students using the use of
choice during the instruction by having two options included in each of my
lessons and letting them choose which option they would like to do.
d. I will assess the students understanding by having a ticket-to-leave at the end
of my instruction. I will also have short mini .ui//es throughout the
instruction such as having it at the end of the lesson or beginning to recap
what we did the day before. I will also give the students three pieces of
paper that they can use to indicate their level of understanding. 'hey will
place the color on top that indicates if they need my help during instruction.
$or example, I will have the colors red, yellow, and green pieces of paper on
their desks. 'he student will place red if they need me to stop and help them
because they are really lost in my instruction, yellow if they need a little help
with the instruction, and green on top if they are good-to-go and they do not
need any help with the instruction.
3. Classroom Arrangement:
a. 0pon arrival, I will have the students place their jackets and bags on
hooks right as they walk in the classroom on the left hand side. 'here
will be two different hooks per students so that they can hang up both
their jacket and bag on. 'his way the bags and jackets are out of the
way so that no one can trip on them. 'he students will then place their
books on their assigned desk and the rest of the materials will be
available for them. 1ins will be on the tables all the students can share
and use the materials such as pencils, pens, rulers, crayons, scissors,
paper, and etc.
b. I will first try having the desks arranged the students desk in two
rows. If that doesnt work for the certain students that are in my
classroom, I will rearrange. I will also change the arrangement of the
classroom occasionally for a nice change to keep everyone from being
bored. I will have a reading corner where the students can read on
their own and where we can read together with a big comfy chair and
pillows that the students can either hold on to or sit on. 23ap on
separate sheet.2
i. 3ap explanations: I will have the desks in two rows with three
desks in each row because I will have 4 students in my
classroom. I will have the desks facing the white board and the
5pple '6. 'his way I dont have students turning around to
see instruction or the board. I will have a comfy chair in the
right hand corner for reading corner. In the left hand corner, I
will have a book shelf with books that we will read in the
classroom. 7n top of the book shelf I will have a spot for the
students to turn in their homework and a spot for the student to
find sponge activities. 0nder the windows, I will have a table
that will have materials that I will use as a teacher and a spot
for myself and my co-teacher to sit and do our work, such as
grading or planning.
c. I will place the desks in two groups of three or three groups of two for
the students to work in groups. I will move them in each part of the
classroom to make sure they have enough space to feel comfortable
working in their groups. I will have the desk facing each other so that
the students can look at and talk to each other.
d. I will put inspiring posters on the wall, such as posters that include
math strategies and )nglish 8anguage 5rts. I will also have the
classroom rules displayed on the walls so that all the students will see
and know them. I will also have classroom jobs for the students to
have and boy and girl passes to the bathroom hanging on the wall.
e. I would like to have a smart board but in my classroom, I will only
have 5pple '6 to display my *ower*oints. I will also have grade
level reading books in my classroom and teacher books that will have
ideas to help with lesson plans and instruction. I will have the reading
level books available to the students and also have the materials for the
students to use.
f. I will be able to monitor all parts of my classroom with the help of my
co-teacher by having us break up the classroom where I will keep an
eye on the right hand side of the classroom and she will keep an eye on
the left hand side of the classroom.
4. Classroom Environment:
a. 3y classroom will have a theme. 'he theme of my classroom will be
sports where the students will be called ,5ll 9tars.- :e will have a
player of the week and have the students reali/e that we, as a
classroom, are a team and we will work to succeed throughout the
year.
b. I will control the noise level in the room by letting the students know
that when the teacher claps her hands they will have to mimic it and
then .uiet down and listen to the students. If it gets too cra/y and the
clapping doesnt work then I will try to turn off the lights and just
stand there in .uiet to get them to reali/e I want to move on to the next
instruction.
c. 'he only visual distraction in my classroom that I cannot change is the
big window. ;owever, this window is only facing the little yard
behind the center. 'herefore, I will the only things that can be a
distraction to the students are: the weather, birds, and maybe wild life.
d. I will try to accommodate the student preferences to the best of my
ability in the following manner:
i. 'here isnt much I can do about the lighting in the room
but if the sun is bright enough for the students to do
their work and some students like the lights off I will do
that for a day. ;owever, I do have two switches and I
will alternate between having one on and then the other
either the next day or same day depending on the
students preferences.
ii. 'he temperature I feel like I will have no control over,
but I will have extra sweaters or blankets in the room so
that students can use them. I feel like that would be the
best way to accommodate that issue.
iii. If possible, I could include in my classroom head
phones for each student to have access to use if they
feel that other students are being too loud when
working with either myself or another student. 'his
way it will limit the noise that I can and cannot stop.
iv. I will have the students use their folders to put around
their desk to limit the visual distractions and I will
sometimes close the shades to limit the students seeing
out the window in the classroom.
v. I will start off with using the chairs that are provided in
the classroom for posture, but if a student needs more
help with this I will get a special chair to accommodate
to their needs.
e. I will incorporate movement into each day by having the students start
off with brain gym. I will choose a different brain gym activity to try
each day to start off the class. I will also have little mini stretching
activities in between each instruction.
5. Classroom Scheule:
a. 'he schedule my classroom will be different from the type of
classroom I will have in a real school district. ;owever, the
students will arrive, have a snack, do homework for an hour,
and then we will have my lesson plan(instruction for the
remaining of the time.
b. I will have a pocket chart on the white board displaying the
schedule of the day so that the students can see it every day and
become familiar with it.
c. I will make sure that each activity starts and ends on time by
keeping an eye on the clock and having a timer set for each
activity. 'herefore, I will be able to say to my students that we
have five or ten minutes left.
d. I will just state that in about five minutes we will take a .uick
stretching activity and then go into the next instruction. If my
words dont seem to be helping the transitions to run smoothly,
I will then use the lights to signal that the next activity is about
to occur.
e. I will have a monthly schedule to start off with, but if the
instructions are taking longer than plan I will then move my
plans to weekly and I will be constantly changing my plans.
f. I will have monthly themes because I feel that I will be easier
for the students to remember what the theme is and this way it
will give us enough time to make sure the theme is fully
developed.
!. Classroom "ules:
a. 3y co-teacher and I will determine the main rules of the classroom,
but I would like to have feedback from the students on what they feel
should be our classroom rules. 'herefore, we will collaborate and
compromise to determine the final classroom rules.
b. 'he rules of my classroom will include: tell your neighbor a
compliment before starting class, respect others and their personal
belongings, listen to other students while they are talking, and always
try to make someone who is not smiling smile.
c. I will ensure the understanding of the rules by asking the students to
explain each rule and show an example of how to show this rule. I
will do this for the first two weeks of school to make sure the students
understand the rules. I will then ask the students later on in the year
what the rules are while having the rules covered to make sure the
rules are sticking in the students mind. :e will always read them
over before we start class to keep the rules fresh in their mind.
d. 'he rules will be reviewed in the beginning of class and will be used
as a ticket-to-leave if they can state a rule and show how the rule is
instituted.
e. 'he rules will be communicated to the students through the schedule
on the white board and reading them over every day. 'he rules will be
communicated to the parents in a letter that will be sent home to them
to tell what we will be doing in the classroom and the rules that we
will like their child to follow while being in this classroom. 'he rules
will be communicated to the administrators through a letter as well
letting them know what we expect our students to follow in our
classroom.
#. Classroom Proceures:
a. I will get the students attention by clapping and having the students
mimic the clap. I will use this as long as it works with my students.
b. 9tudents will raise their hands when they have a .uestion or a
problem. I will also use the red, yellow, green pieces of paper for the
students to let me know when they need help on either instruction or
homework help. 'his way the students that hate raising their hands to
get the teachers attention can use those instead.
c. 8essons will be structured by having a hook to get the students
attention(interest in the lesson. 'he lessons will end with either a
ticket-to-leave or a feedback time where the student will tell me what
they thought about the lesson before they are able to leave the
classroom.
d. 9tudents will be grouped either in pairs or in groups of three. 'hese
groups will change from lesson to lesson to get the student working
with everyone in the classroom.
e. 8earning will be assessed informally and formally because I feel both
assessments are important. 9tudents will be informally assessed by
answering .uestions verbally. 9tudents will be formally assessed by
taking .ui//es, written responses, or doing tickets-to-leave.
f. *rocedures for each of the following are:
i. 5rrival(greeting- I will greet the students with a smile
and ask how their day was. 'he students will hang up
their jackets, take out their books and place them on the
desk, and then hang up their book bags.
ii. 5ttendance- I will have a *opsicle stick that the
students will have to move from being in their other
school to in our classroom to show that they are here
today.
iii. 5bsences- there will be a folder for each student that
will have the material that they missed for that day that
they will have to do when they come to the next class.
iv. <oal-setting-;aving the students write down a goal that
they would like to achieve by the end of the year.
v. 1athroom(drinks- 9tudents will ask the teacher and then
will take the bathroom pass to go to the bathroom or a
drink.
vi. 9harpening pencils- 'he students will raise their hands
if their pencil broke and either I or the other teacher
will sharpen the pencil for the student.
vii. <etting supplies- 'he students will know where to get
the supplies, but they will first have to ask permission
to get up and get the supplies that they will need to use
or the supplies will already be on their desk.
viii. =lassroom jobs- =lassroom jobs will change each week
be displayed on the wall for all the students to see what
their job is for that week.
ix. ;omework help- 'here will be an hour for the students
to receive homework help and they will have the
chance to receive help in this time.
x. *eer tutoring- 9tudents will have a chance to help other
students in activities and homework help in the
classroom. I will give the student permission to help
another student if they finish first and did the
homework correctly.
xi. 9ponge activities- 'here will be a folder that has all
these activities in them and the students will know that
they will be able to get up and grab these activities
when the finish with the instruction they are doing.
xii. 9nack- 9nack will be provided by the center and will be
given to the student after they give a positive
compliment to another student in the classroom.
xiii. 1rain breaks- 9tudents will have mini breaks where we
will stand up and stretch to give the students a brain
break.
xiv. 'icket-out-the->oor- 'his will be used at the end of the
instruction to get feedback and to see if the students
understood what was taught in the classroom. 'hey
will have to fill it out and hand it to the teacher before
they are able to leave the classroom.
xv. >eparture- 9tudents will pack up their materials and
make sure everything is picked up. 'hen they will line
up by the door and we will wait till our bus comes.
xvi. *arent communications- I will send home a notebook
with each student that told the parent how the day went
and ask them to write back to me telling me how the
child did at home.
xvii. 'eacher communication- I will collaborate between the
other <rad 5ssistants to receive feedback and get ideas
on how to make my classroom better.
$. %ehavior Management:
a. I will encourage my students to have good behavior in the classroom
by giving the students positive reinforcements. I will also use candy at
random intervals to show the students that I really do appreciate how
well they are behaving today, such as giving a student hard candy
without saying anything and just placing it on their desk.
b. I will manage students who are behaving negatively in my classroom
by speaking to them out in the hallway and let them know that I would
like this behavior to change or they will not be able to take part in the
fun activities that are planned for that day. I hate taking things away
from students, but they have to reali/e that there are conse.uences to
their actions.
&. Empo'erment:
a. I will use the empowerment of choice into my instruction for the students. I
will also have the students tell me what they feel should be taught. 'his will
help them feel like they have a part of their instruction. I will have the
students tell me how they think they are doing in the classroom. I will also
have the students tell me how they think I am doing as a teacher.
b. I will give the students the choice of each of the activities such as working
with someone else or by themself. I will have them tell me how they feel they
are doing on their work. I will also have them tell me what they feel they did
the best on. 'his way it will have the students having empowerment over
themselves.
1(. "e)lection:
a. I will determine the effectiveness of my =lassroom 3anagement *lan by
determining whether it worked or not. $or example, if my idea of my setting
arrangement worked or not or my rules are appropriate to my
classroom(students. I will also know if it worked by how well my classroom
is running and how the students are enjoying my classroom.
b. I will evaluate my effectiveness of my =lassroom 3anagement *lan every
week to begin with because I am just getting to know all my students and how
the classroom should run. I will either change or improve the plan each week.
If it needs to be to fixed for myself and the students preferences, I will try to
find the best management plan for my classroom.
