Materials:
3 white flowers
3 clear cups
Food coloring
Water
Phone(camera)
Tape(to label)
Introduction:

The topic of our project is food coloring being absorbed by a flower. A flower
absorbing food coloring includes concentration. Concentration is an amount of
something being absorbed by an object. It basically is that an increase in amount will
lead to an increase in affect. So for my project the increase in food coloring will lead to
an increase in amount of time the flower absorbs the food coloring. It also includes
diffusion which is when molecules go from a high concentration to a low concentration.
During the project I expect to see the flower absorbing the food coloring. I also
expect to see the most affect to come from the cup with three table spoons of food
coloring. I expect to see the least affect to come from the cup with one table spoon of
food coloring. Finally we expect all the affects to happen throughout the three days
that we had to complete the project.
I will test my hypothesis by adding different amounts of food coloring to cups filled
with the same amount of water and adding one white flower to each cup. We will
observe and record our data from the past three days. Finally, we will examine the data
from the three days that we tested our hypothesis. We will fill in our chart with data
that was recorded.

Procedure:

Notes Proper lab format (Complete sentences, 3
rd
person, past tense)
1. One flower was placed in each half filled cup of water.
Cup A filled with 1 table
spoon of food coloring
2. In cup A one table spoon of food coloring was added to the flower.
Observed and recorded 3. Cup A was observed and data was recorded.
Cup B filled with 2 table
spoons of food coloring
4. In cup B two table spoons of food coloring was added.
Observed and recorded 5. Cup B was observed and data was recorded.
Cup C filled 3 table spoons
of food coloring
6. In cup C three table spoon of food coloring was added.
Controlled parameters:
(What things do you need to keep the same in order to have a good experiment?)
-Individual amounts of food coloring
-Same amount of water
-3 same flowers
-same food coloring color
-same cups
-put in the same area
-
-

Observed and recorded 7. Cup C was observed and data was recorded.
Recorded data from past 3
days
8. Data was recorded from the past three days.

Conclusion:

The hypothesis to our project was if the amount of food coloring was increased than the amount of time it takes would
increase to. Our data says that our graph is a positive slope because everyday the flower show affect. Our data shows that
our hypothesis is correct because the more food coloring that was added to the cup the more affect it had on the flower.
I found out that a flower absorbing food coloring is also known as diffusion which was when molecules with high
concentration change to low concentration.
