Semester 2 Goal

My goals for semester two is to simply improve upon my goals for semester one. I believe that I
have accomplished all of my goals for semester one; however I believe that I always have room for
more improvement. I want to dig even deeper as I read novels, so that I can fully understand the
authors messages. I also want to become an even better writer by being able to effectively express
my thoughts to the readers. Finally, I want to be able to think even more creatively, so that I can
make my own interpretations of the literature that I encounter. I hope that I can become an even
better writer by the time that I graduate.
In addition to the goal to improve upon the goals of semester one, I also hope to become better at
supporting my arguments. My primary struggle on essays was supporting my arguments and ideas
with details. Although I had very creative and interesting ideas, I could not support the ideas with
much detail and therefore could not appeal with credibility to my readers. Although I have become
much better at supporting my arguments than I was at the beginning of the semester, I still hope to
get better at it.
Another goal I have is to become better at organizing my ideas as I write my essay. In the beginning
of the semester, I was almost terrible at organizing my writings. For example, in the After Dark
essay, I did not do a good job in providing transitions and therefore my essay was very confusing to
read. Although I have once again got better, I still feel that I have ways to go. I believe, however
that it is very possible for me to improve next semester because I have improved so much this
semester even though I had a rough start.
Evaluation
My semester goal was to improve upon my skills as a writer. I primarily stressed upon my wishful
improvement in argumentation and organization. Ever since I have entered the doors of AP
Literature, I have realized that I have lacked much in organizing my ideas and providing supporting
evidence for my arguments. I believe, however that I have improved significantly in both fronts as I
have reread my essays and saw my progression as a writer. For example, I have compared the essay
I wrote for the novel After Dark with the author studies final essay. I have found out that I have had
less repetition and I have had much more supporting quotations and indirect reference that
successfully supported my thesis. I also saw a significant difference in the level of organization as I
saw a difference between the very first essay that I have written with the very recent essay. After
seeing such great difference, I believe that I have nailed the structure of writing in which I have to
follow. I believe that I have generally fulfilled my goals upon the second semester because of the
aforementioned statement.
