A.

M&M Lab
a. Step 1: State the Problem.
i. We are trying to find out how many candies of each color
are in a fun-sized bag of M&Ms.
b. Gather Information.
i. What colors of candies are found in this bag?
1. The colors are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and
brown.
ii. Which color do you think is most common?
1. The one I think is the most common is red.
c. Form A Hypothesis.
i. My conjecture is that there will be 20 total candies, 5 red, 4
orange, 4 yellow, 3 green, 2 blue, and 2 brown.
d. Experiment!
i. First, I opened up the bag, and poured the M&Ms on the
table.
ii. Then, I organized the pile into the different colors, green,
then orange, then red, then brown, then blue, then brown.
e. Record and Analyze Data.
i.
Color Frequency (How
Many)
Percentage
Green 4 24%
Orange 3 18%
Red 5 29%
Brown 3 18%
Blue 1 6%
Yellow 1 6%
Total: 17

f. Form A Conclusion
i. Today we investigated a lingering question: How many
M&Ms are in a fun-sized bag, and how many M&Ms of
each color are in the bag? My conjecture was that there
was going to be 20 M&Ms: 5 red, 4 orange, 4 yellow, 3
green, 2 blue, and two brown, In reality, however, there
were 4 green, 3 orange, 5 red, 3 brown, 1 blue, and 1
yellow. In comparing these, only one of the predictions was
right (the number of red candies). But on the other
predictions, I was close.
