Triangles and squares

We are trying to investigate what patterns are and the connection
patterns have to problem solving and addition, subtraction or
multiplication.

I will: (What am I going to do?)
1. We are going to investigate numbers to find which
collections can be arranged as a square or a triangle.

2. We are going to find out how we record this pattern as
an addition or multiplication sum.

3. We can find these numbers on a 100s chart and see if
we can predict what number would come next in this
pattern.

We are trying to investigate the number patterns on a hundreds
chart.

1. We are going to look at the hundreds chart and look
for patterns in the vertical rows on the 100s chart.

2. We are going to find different ways of recording and
explaining the patterns we find.

3. We are going to explore this pattern using the constant
function on the calculators and describe the pattern
using an addition sum.

We are trying to investigate how counting in sequence can form a
pattern and how it is connected to addition.

1. Create a set of numbers from 0 -50. Decide on the
skip counting pattern we will use to make the pattern.

2. We will use se our tools to model the skip counting
pattern and record the sequence of numbers.

3. We will investigate the different ways we can record
this pattern as a sum.

hundreds chart

3. We are going to find 2 ways to record this pattern
using groups and addition.

4. We are going to use what we know to predict what will
come next in a new sequence of numbers.

complete a necklace. We are going to examine the attributes that
are repeating in the pattern.

started for us.
