Standard 5: Using content knowledge to build meaningful curriculum.

Key Element: Using own knowledge, appropriate early learning standards, and other resources
to design, implement, and evaluate developmentally meaningful and challenging curriculum for
each child.
Course: Math and Science for young children.
Assignment: math& science activities (lesson plans).

Making the curriculum effective is a very important aspect in the whole child
development domains. Standard 5 mentions that teachers should design, implement and evaluate
the curriculum for each child, by using her own knowledge of academic disciplines. This standard
ensures that curriculum should promote learning outcomes for every child by making it a
challenged and developmentally appropriate. In this assignment, I included some lesson plans for
different activities that are related to the deferent developmental areas.

This assignment is related to math and science course, which include many math concepts
such as one to one correspondence, matching, counting, classifying, graphing, measuring, and
whole to part. In the assignment we were asked to design lesson plans for some activity that relate
to these very important concepts. From this assignment, I learned how to write a lesson plan, and
how to extend the activity to make it more challenging for the child in the next step. In addition,
writing an effective lesson plan is not a random process. It follows an essential step and organized
form that reflect the name of the activity and the new concept the child will learn. It also reflects
the goal, materials, preparation, procedures, evaluation of the activity and the extension and
simplification of the activity.
In addition, from this course, I learned the fundamental math and science concept to
design any activity and how to start with the child from the simple activity to the challenged ones.
Moreover, the course is a great resource for me and other teachers to find the fundamental concepts
that must be included in an effective curriculum that is comprehensive for all children, and that
work with the individual differences.
