PMI Activity Using the Plus, minus, Innovations regime for each of the assessment recording formats, I felt
there were more pluses, however rather than adding minuses, I feel some could benefit with additions to some
formats.
Teaching Ideas: The class record keeping form is a useful tool, but I think the symbols and the bottom of the
page could be confusing when viewed by other, and could be time consuming rather than a tick or cross to
indicate success or further learning required. I designed a similar record keeping form to the one given in the
example, and did found the mix of symbols confusing. The teacher needs a good knowledge of the symbols s/he
has used and it could appear muddled when viewing it. Rather than having the whole document filled with
symbols, I would be inclined to use the words as as headings for the document, with ticks placed in relevant
boxes to indicate achievements e.g.

When used for a whole class, this could be a useful recording form for an overview of what has been
taught/achieved/is still to be taught, but it doesnt allow space for further reflection e.g. working towards. Each
student is individual with their achievements, however the form doesnt enable for specific elaborations to
support individual students needs.
Mrs Perkins: I gave this form a plus as it breaks down each students required tasks. The use of symbols that
equate to a % in this form is great. It is a useful tool for teachers to look through each students achievements,
to see where further instruction might be needed for each student. It is also a useful method of assessment to
indicate to a teacher where they need to modify their teaching e.g. if all/more than a certain number of students
were graded as a (-) in one component, this could be an indication that teacher instruction needs modifications.
It is also a useful reference tool to make comparisons in achievements between terms.
Maths: I also gave this marking form a plus. While this demonstrates to teachers and students examples of
learning achievements required, it still needs areas to show where and what could be incorporated to achieve
higher achievements.
Steps Spelling: This form gives great guidelines of what student work is expected to look like according to
specific stages. I felt further boxes could be included in the Individual Student Profile section to indicate
whether content in these areas had been achieved, using a tick and a comments area added to record where
further development may be needed.
This Week At School/Small Group Task: I really like the way these forms are designed as students can use
them for self-assessment, and makes any ideas they have for their own improvements, relevant to their
personal/individual learning needs. It can also be used to demonstrate how/what they feel about their learning
experience sometimes a student might record themselves as not feeling competent in an area, and just need the
support of their teacher to say hey, you are doing .really well I like the way you do .
2. Report Comments-
Year 2-Some of the reporting comments specifically focused on individual students learning, and some were a
general curriculum achievement. Parents would mostly be interested in the progress their own child makes, so
reports that specify their childs achievements in curriculum areas, areas for improvement and social
implications would be of more interest than general discussion about whole class activities. The Year 2
reporting example, demonstrates discussion about the individual child; improvements in their learning journey
and issues to be worked on. It also discusses off task influences that can affect the child both on a social and
learning level. The number sense and writing areas only reflect on general classroom outcomes, rather than
specifically relating learning to the individual student.
Year 9-While the SOSE and maths areas generally discuss the student from a social perspective, and there is
general comment about the successes the student has achieved, it doesnt necessarily show specific
achievements within curriculum areas. As a parent, I would be pleased to receive this kind of report, with visual
examples of outcomes received.
