Introduction

This book has various poems based on the intricate interaction between
humans and nature. In particular, the theme of dominance is explored. Part one
of this book showcases the poems that have nature being dominant over humans,
while the other part contains a single poem that has humans being dominant over
nature. The first poem dichotomizes between nature and humans. This sets the
mood for the human nature interaction within this book. In the first chapter, the
poems are order based on location. This is to reveal how nature dominates
humans in different ways and places. The first couple of poems are based on the
moon and the sky. Then it progresses to features of nature that are more on the
ground, like trees and volcanoes. Finally, the nature dominance chapter ends
with poems directly referring to nature itself.
The choice to divide the book into two chapters has two main purposes to
it. Firstly, this was done to show that nature has a larger influence over humans.
The contrast of several poems on natures dominance to only a single poem on
humans dominance brings this idea to life. And secondly, the separation into two
chapters encourages one to ask why nature is more dominant. Is it because it is
more influential or powerful? Is it because nature was here long before
humanity? Is nature even dominant over humans?
It is our hope as the makers of this book that readers ask themselves these
important questions. We also hope that you enjoy this collection of poems and
feel inspired to write some of your own. Enjoy!
