HSAs are compatible with High Deductible Health Plans, Flexible Spending Accounts, and Health Reimbursement
Arrangements as outlined below:

High Deductible Health Insurance (HDHP)
The HDHP must meet IRS guidelines for deductible and maximum out-of-pocket expenses. 2014 guidelines:

1. Individual deductibles can be no less than $1,250 and no more than $6,350 (deductible and out-of-pocket
combined).
2. Family deductibles (one or more dependents) can be no less than $2,500 and no more than $12,700
(deductible and out-of-pocket combined).
3. Plan pays no benefits until deductible is met, with an exception allowed for preventative care and
mandated benefits under the PPACA.
4. No prescription benefits are paid until deductible is met, with an exception for preventative prescriptions.

Limited Purpose Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Limited Purpose Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)
Medical portion of FSA/HRA is limited to:

1. Preventative Care
2. Dental
3. Vision
4. HRA can also pay for permitted insurance (for a specific disease or illness or that provides a fixed amount
per day, or other period, of hospitalization)

Post-Deductible Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)
The FSA or HRA must have an annual deductible that falls within the IRS guidelines for HSAs. This deductible does
not have to be the same as the HDHP deductible. 2014 deductibles:

1. Single: $1,250 - $6,350
2. Family: $2,500 - $12,700
Suspended HRA
Reimbursement under the HRA is suspended during participation in an HSA with the following exceptions:

1. Preventative Care
2. Dental
3. Vision
4. Permitted Insurance

Retirement HRA
Pays or reimburses only those medical expenses incurred after retirement. Once the individual retires they are no
longer eligible to contribute to an HSA.

FSA and HRA plans that are not HSA compatible can be brought into compliance by contacting the administrator of
the plan and having the plan documents amended.
