we begin another school year. It is my hope that this handbook will help you become familiar
with our school policies, procedures, and programs.

ATTENANCE &RS 158$10 states that the parent or guardian is responsible for
keeping his1her child in regular school attendance.

without a alid e"cuse for three E0F days or more, or tardy on three E0F days or more is
truant. *ny child who has been reported as a truant two E-F or more times is a habitual
truant. Once a student under twenty&one E-1F years of age is absent and1or tardy si" E5F

(tudent safety is a top priority at G. C. Burkhead. #he students, who are transported by
parents, shall be dropped off by the doors behind the cafeteria. Cars will not be permitted
in the front parking lot during school hours, >J44&-J04. #his area is restricted for buses
only.

+nd of day dismissal for students is -J16 p.m. *ll students board buses in the front of
school unless parents1guardians hae made other arrangements by 1-J44. Only school
personnel will hae access to the bus loading area.
/arents1Guardians, if you plan to pick up your children, you must send a personal note
to your childGs teacher or notify the office by coming in and writing a note before 1-J44
of any transportation changes. #his note may be filed for long&term arrangements and
parents must be responsible for notifying the school when there is a need for other
transportation changes.
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES
If your childGs prearranged transportation situation changes, for a day or an e"tended.
#ransportation arrangements cannot be changed without notification from the
parent1guardian by 1-J44 noon. Kour cooperation in this area is necessary for the
protection of our students.
There will be NO transportation changes made by phone.

If a parent or legal guardian of a student insists that they proide the childGs
transportation for an e"tra&curricular trip or school sponsored eent, during the school
day, the following procedures must be metJ
1. #he parent or legal guardian must notify the studentGs teacher and principal in
writing at least two school days prior to the planned eent.
-. Only the parent or legal guardian of the child may transport the child.
0. *t the designated departure time for the trip1actiity in !uestion, the parent or
legal guardian must sign out the child in the office and take charge of the child.
#he child will not be counted absent if he1she attends all designated stops during
the itinerary, and if all guidelines in this procedure hae been met.
9. Cpon arrial at each designated stop on the itinerary, the parent or legal guardian
must personally notify the teacher, administrator, or designee that the child is
present. #he child may not be left unattended by the parent or legal guardian at a
designated point in order for the child to $oin the group upon its arrial.
Cpon departure from each designated stop on the trip itinerary, the parent or legal
guardian must personally notify the teacher, administrator, or designee that they are
departing from the group. If the parent or legal guardian is not in attendance at the
scheduled departure time, the child will not be permitted to wait for the parent

work with students on skills that the regular classroom teacher has identified as skills that
the student needs to maintain performance, preent failure, or reduce academic

be notified in writing as to the skills identified as needing additional support, along with

Our policy is based on the fact that lice nits EeggsF left in the hair can hatch and
reinfect a student or other students, een after treatment with a pediculicide E?i", 8I2, or
=wellF. #he purpose of this policy is to preent the spread of head lice and reduce
absenteeism due to head lice in our school.
*ny G. C. Burkhead student found to hae lie head lice will hae a responsible adult
called and will be returned home as soon as possible. If no one can be reached, the child
will be sent home the usual time with a letter. #he child must then be returned to school
by an adult for a recheck. #he child may return to school without an adult only if a note
from a health professional indicates the child ok to return to school.
E9AMINATIONS:
(tate law and state regulations re!uire a medical e"amination of each student within
