`Injured` Barca captain Puyol to join clubs sports management knee after quitting squad

Johannesburg, May 31 (ANI): Barcelona captain Carlos Puyol will reportedly join the clubs
sports management team after being forced to quit the squad due to a knee injury.

Puyol had earlier said that that he would rescind his playing contract at the end of the current
campaign due to the knee injury, but hinted he could stay with the club beyond the end of the
season in a different capacity.

According to Sport24, Barcelona said in a statement that Puyols new appointment would ensure
that one of the most emblematic captains in club history would be remaining at the Camp Nou
side.

Barcelona further said the former player would join the club's football department to assist the
sports management team, with football director Andoni Zubizarreta revealing that Puyol would
work on club projects, including in areas such as marketing, finance and football player signings
and transfers.

Puyol, who emotionally announced that he had played his last game for the club after 593
appearances spanning a 15-year career, said that he would do his best in the new job even though
he admitted that he needs some time to rest and continue treatment on his knee. (ANI)
