Overview Students will learn about the structure of DNA, the different parts of DNA, and how they interact with each other. Objectives Students will understand what a nucleotide is. Students will know how a phosphate group, carbon sugar molecule, and nitrogen base play a role in the DNA structure. Students will know the 4 nitrogenous bases Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, and Guanine. Students will understand how the Double Helix is formed. Will understand base pairs and know which nitrogenous bases pair up together. Activities Quick review about the structure of DNA. Students will use the material provided and will develop a paper model of the DNA structure. Begin DNA Structure Coloring Sheet Adaptations If a student is unable to manipulate the paper due to dexterity issues, the student can partner up with a classmate. If a student needs accommodations, labels will be put on the paper model guiding the student to connect the model in the right places. A student can use a pre-made model as an example. Evaluation Student will write a brief reflection on how their progress with the paper model.
