Task 4 Reflection:

There are three main stages of listening activity that are pre-listening, while listening, and
post-listening. Some teachers depend on the model of the stages for their lessons. Using a
model has many advantages for teachers and learners.
Pre-listening is the first period of listening, before the student start listening. Pre-listening
is an important part to introduce the topic of the listening task, build a background about
the topic, make them ready for the task, and make them predict some word that occur in
the listening text (Mcmilan, 2009).The pre-listening stage has one disadvantage which is
taking a time that could be added to the while-listening stage which has the main proposes.
While-listening is the middle period of the listening activity when the students carry out
the activity, and the teacher observes them. This stage makes the students listen to the
general idea with full attention, find specific information and connect them with their
inferences, and give the teacher a chance to monitor the students (Pekin, 2001).
Post-listening is the last period of the listening activity. In this stage, the teacher checks the
students work, tries to deal with their problems, give them a summary of the listening text,
in addition to the feedbacks which is an important part of this stage (Pekin, 2001).
In my opinion there is no disadvantage for using the model of the listening stages except if
the teacher is not versed in them.
