HOW DO NATURAL DISASTERS AFFECT US?

Introduction:
Natural disasters affect our world in many different days. Natural disasters are extreme
sudden events that occur all around the world. Some types of natural disasters are Floods,
Bushfires and Tornadoes. Every year almost 500 natural disasters hit our world and kill
millions. They also put many people in evacuation centres. In this informative explanation it
will be focusing on these natural disasters, Volcanic eruptions, Avalanches, Floods and
Tsunamis. These are just some of the dangerous natural disasters in our world.
Volcanic Eruptions:
Volcanic Eruptions are massive explosions that occur on large mountains. A volcanic eruption
occurs when it is active or another natural disaster makes its magma rise. The most common
natural disaster to cause a volcanic eruption is an earthquake. The earthquake pushes up the
magma out of its chamber [Magma Chamber] which makes the magma rise right to the top
of the mountain. All of its magma comes out and melts anything it touches. The magma is
700 1300 degrees Celsius. When a volcanic eruption occurs it sends out a black ash in the
sky. This ash is so thick that is can cause plains to crash because the pilot cant see or the ash
gets into the engine. All of these facts can affect people in the environment.

Volcanic Eruption Kilauea:
Ash Cloud:
An ash cloud is a thick black cloud thats comes out of
the mountain after a volcanic eruption. It can case
lots of damage in the air.
Magma Chamber:
The magma chamber is located at the very bottom of
the mountain. It holds all of the magma that is stored
in the mountain.
Lava:
Lava is the same as magma but lava is when the fire
is above the surface. Magma is when the fire is below
the surface.

In 1983 a volcanic eruption occurred on a mountain
called Kilauea, which is located in Hawaii. It was
caused by an earthquake that came through where
the mountain was. The magma rose up the pipe and
slowly the magma came out of the mountain. The
thick black ash cloud formed in the sky and caused
lots of trouble for people. The ash cloud caused many
flights to be cancelled. The lava started to come down
the mountain and started to melt anything it touched.
This mountain is one of the most is one of the most dangerous mountains in the world.
Volcanic Eruptions are just one of the most dangerous natural disasters, but there are lots
more.

Avalanche:
An avalanche occurs on snowy mountains when the slope of the ice breaks, it can make all of
the snow fall of the mountain. The mountains that people snowboard and ski on are most
likely to cause an avalanche then other mountains. There many things that can cause and
avalanche such as, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and humans. An earthquake can cause
an avalanche by breaking or cracking the ice that holds all of the snow. The snow falls all off
the mountain. Another way an avalanche occurs is when a volcanic eruption occurs. It melts
the entire ice slope and causes all of the snow to fall.

Mount Kazbek Avalanche:
Starting Zone:
The starting zone is the part of the mountain when
the avalanche starts.
Track:
The track is the part of mountain; it is where the
snow travels from the top of the mountain to the
bottom.
Run out Zone:
The run out zone is the part of the mountain where
all the snow stops from the avalanche.

In 2002, September 21 an avalanche occurred on
Mount Kazbek. It is located in Russia; it has the
starting zone, track and the run out zone like every
other mountain. Mount Kazbek has killed 150
people when the avalanche occurred. It also
destroyed many houses that were near or close to
the mountain. This avalanche was travelling 128
kilometres within 5 seconds of it occurring. Mount
Kazbek is also where a volcanic eruption occurred
as well, that is one of the disasters that made
Mount Kazbek have avalanche. Mount Kazbek is one of the largest mountains in Russia.
Mount Kazbek has a lot avalanches as it snows a lot in Russia
An avalanche is a very dangerous natural disaster, but there are lots more dangerous
natural disasters that include water.
Floods:
Floods are when there is lots of water everywhere in the area. There are different types of
floods; there are normal floods that are caused by rain or tsunamis. Then there are flash
floods. Flash floods are caused by storms and heavy rain. Flash floods can be more
dangerous than normal floods. Floods occur when there are either lots of rain or a natural
disaster occurs [Tsunamis] Floods can be very dangerous to many live things such as
humans, animals and even plants. Floods can cause so much damage to peoples houses as
well as animals habitats. Lots of people can get isolated in buildings as well as their own
homes. If a flood hits and people arent prepared for it could take months to repair.
Tsunamis are the most common disaster to start a flood, because it pushes all of the water
into one area. The ground cant suck up all of the water at once, so it doesnt suck up any
water at all. Which causes the water to stay on top of the surface and as more water comes
in the area the water rises.
Philippines Flood [Manila Town]
In 2012 a Flash flood occurred in the Philippines [Manila Town] it killed thousands of people,
as well as destroying most of the town. It was caused by a heavy rain. The surface couldnt
soak all of the water because there was too much coming down at once. The flood destroyed
lots of people homes and killed many animals. The flood was very dangerous to many living
things. People all over the town were very devastated as they had no home or anywhere to
sleep. People all over the town were very low on supplies such as food, water and shelter.
80% of the town was destroyed, so people had to move and live in evacuation centres. It
took those people about 6 months to repair all of the damage that the flash flood caused.

Floods occur all over our world and are very dangerous, but there are other natural disasters
that are dangerous and contain water!

Tsunamis:
A tsunami is when the water from the ocean is pushed up by a shockwave that is around the
area. The water rises so high that it can create a massive wave which can be up to 25 metres
high. When the water hits land it can cause lots of damage, it could even destroy a small
town fully. Tsunamis are common in our world today as we have many earthquakes or
shockwaves in our world. People all over our world have suffered from a Tsunami, some
people even died. Peoples home and many building that are up really high can be affected
by a Tsunami. Many people are still suffering from a tsunami that hit 1 year ago, the main
problem that people have when a tsunami hits is that all of their supplies are washed away.
2004 Indian Ocean [The Impossible]
In 2004 a tsunami hit in Thailand from the Indian Ocean, people werent prepared for the
tsunami to hit. The tsunami did a lot of damage and it was very dangerous, it was very
deadly. It killed over 1000 thousand people and lots were injured, many hotels and buildings
for damaged. They were very low on supplies and people were dying by starvation, 50% of
people the people were killed because they had no food. The tsunami was caused by
earthquake that was underwater. The tsunami was very powerful; it was about 20 metres
high.
Tsunamis are one of the most dangerous water type disasters, but there are lots more that
dont contain water.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, natural disasters are very dangerous and can occur all over the world. Volcanic
eruptions, Avalanches, Floods and Tsunamis are all very dangerous and can affect anything
in the world.
