Modelled/Explicit Teaching:
Use the notebook file in T:\Teacher\2014 Year
1\Maths\Rounding and Money to introduce coins and
notes

Break into small groups and to the following activities:
Money Lotto (NUMBER CARDS to be printed:
p.2-3 in T:\Teacher\2014 Year
1\Maths\Maths Term 2\ Maths Term 2 Week)
1 dealer, up to 4 players (up to 5 kids)
Rolling the Coin Dice and collecting that amount
of coins (this activity can be differentiated by
giving the kids a target amount to achieve for
eg: the first to reach $5.00). Use TOY
PLASTIC COINS.
Money Snap (orange boxes) up to $2.40 (ext:
over $2.40)
Roll the dice (1-6). Collect that number of 10c
coins. When they get to $1 trade for $1, then
trade for another $1 at $2 (then swap the 2
$1 pieces for a $2). The first person to get
$2 wins. NEEDS REAL 10c pieces.
