PROGRAM INPUTS PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

Children with ASD:

1. Within first four months, participate
in eight relaxation response sessions including:
3 sessions on yoga relaxation postures including
breathing techniques using bubbles
3 sessions for music relaxation therapy
2 sessions on dance rhythm movements where
children are encouraged to imitate each other &
dance in groups
2. Within the following four months, complete
8 social competence skills group interaction
sessions
4 sessions with children placed in groups of 2 to 5
to act out social play sequences through peer &
video modeling instruction led by occupational
therapist and mentors
4 sessions where mentors provide instruction on
target social interaction skills through peer
modeling, social stories & picture books; then
children practice and apply specific skills in groups
of 2 to 5 for a variety of activities

Parents:

1. Within eight months complete 15 weekly
sessions on mindful parenting
Session one will introduce mindful parenting
practices and concepts to parents
12 sessions on mindful parenting practices

mindful parenting skills

INTERMEDIATE OUTCOMES
Children with ASD:
Within three months post COMPASS
participation, at least 65% of children
with ASD will decrease hyperactivity
by 9%.

Within six months post COMPASS
participation, at least 55% of children
with ASD will increase social
interaction with their peers by 20%.

Decrease aggression by 11% in
children who participate in COMPASS
and whose parents complete mindful
parenting training within eight months
of COMPASS start date.



Increase awareness of

Decrease the risk of depression by 50% in
children with ASD, ages four to13 years,
who live in Washington D.C. after 3 years
of COMPASS start date
