1. Presents occupational therapy cognitive models f or psychiatric rehabilitation, based on remedial/dynamic and
adaptive/f unctional approaches. The f ormer approach f ocuses on the individual's impaired capabilities, while the
latter aims at assets or strengths. The common assumption is that f unctional activities require cognitive perceptual
skills. The cognitive disabilities model f ocuses on assessing the cognitive level of perf ormance, analyzing tasks, and
adapting them to the individual's level of perf ormance, by utilizing mainly everyday task activities. Treatment f ollows
3 stages: post acute, rehabilitation and long-term care. The dynamic model f or cognitive modif iability utilizes mainly
paper pencil exercises. Assessment and treatment are interwoven dynamically, and f ocus on strategy learning,
processes and problem solving, through mediated interaction. The cases of 2 males (aged 27 and 32 yrs) are used
to illustrate the 2 models. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2014 APA, all rights reserved)
