Why did Windows come into existence?

Answer :
(a) Through MS-DOS offered good functionality, the text interface that it
offered was boring and difficult for a common user to get use to. It
was not easy for a layman to grasp and remember convoluted DOS
commands. Windows offered a Visual Interface, which was intuitive
and easy to use.

(b) With the success that MS-DOS met in the PC industry the user
started demanding more and more features in the DOS based
programs.

(c) Every DOS program had a different use interface, which the user was
required to get used to before he can start getting work out of the
program. For example, Lotus 1-2-3, FoxPro, WordStar offered
different types of menus. Such problems were eliminated in Windows
by offering a consistent user interface.

(d) Windows could offer multitasking capability where by the use could
run several programs simultaneously in memory.
