A Natural Environment is Bliss in a Miserable World
The main idea of this paragraph is the power an environment has over an individuals
thought patterns. As Jean Valjean had a moment of solitude Nature sometimes joins her
efforts and her appearances to our acts with a sort of serious and intelligent
appropriateness, as if she compels us to reflect (Hugo 29). Interpretive lead in This
relates to the thesis because nature gave Jean Valjean a moment of reflection by creating
a specific atmosphere.
The main idea of this paragraph is the enclosure of the environment and its natural beauty
infested Jean Valjean with a peace of mind and possibly a form of happiness. Around
him, this quiet garden, these balmy flowers, these children, shouting with joy, these meek
and simple women, this silent cloister, gradually entered into all his being, and little by
little, his soul subsided into the silence of the cloister (Hugo 149). Interpretive lead
in This relates to the thesis because the natural environment caused Jean Valjean being
to relax and enjoy the simplicity life and what it has to offer.
The main idea of this paragraph is the corruption of a childs innocence was cleansed by

her, not to find its way to her heart. Insensibly, and without suspicion on her part, the
darkness passed away from her mind. (Hugo 261). Interpretive lead in This relates to

the thesis because the gift of peace and bliss has no age restriction. A natural environment
has a tremendous influence where it can bring peace to unlikely individuals.
