FREDERICK SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA OPENS 18
th
SEASON WITH CLASSICAL FAVORITES
2014-2015 Season Kicks Off With The Classics

FREDERICK, MDThe Frederick Symphony Orchestra will open its 18
th
concert season on
Saturday, October 25, 2014 with Classical Favorites. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the
J.B. Kussmaul Theater at Frederick Community College.
Classical Favorites will feature accomplished guest conductor Vladimir Lande, the
Principal Guest Conductor of the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra in Russia. Lande is also a
guest conductor of the National Gallery Orchestra in Washington, D.C. and the Music Director
of the COSMIC Symphony Orchestra, the Washington Soloists Chamber Orchestra in
Washington, D.C., and Johns Hopkins University Chamber Orchestra.
In 2008, Maestro Lande led a nation-wide tour of the National Gallery Chamber
Orchestra. He has also led the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra in a tour across the United
States, Mexico, and South America. Over the years, Lande has recorded and released more than
10 compact discs with the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra.

Classical Favorites will also put clarinetist Laura Armstrong beneath the spotlight as
she performs Weber: Clarinet Concerto No. 2. Armstrong currently teaches clarinet and
saxophone at Frederick Community College and has also directed clarinet and saxophone
ensembles at Shippensburg University. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in
Clarinet Performance from University of Maryland in 2010, and went on to receive performance
degrees in clarinet from Duquesne University and Susquehanna University.
In the past, Armstrong has performed with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra,
Shippensburg Festival Symphony, Ash Lawn Opera Orchestra, and the Honolulu Symphony. She
is also a founding member of the Fortunata Trio, which includes a flutist, bassoonist, and
Armstrong as the clarinetist.
Music selections for the evening include Wager: Prelude to Die Miestersinger and
Clarinet Concerto No. 2, and Dvork: Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op.95. Other upcoming
concerts in the series will feature holiday selections, pop sounds, classical favorites, outstanding
soloists, and all of Frederick Symphony Orchestras talented musicians.
